Democracy, economics, or health-Time to look to the east for leadership
J Family Med Prim Care. 2023 Jun;12(6):1027-1029. doi: 10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_839_23. Epub 2023 Jun 30.ABSTRACTWhile the capabilities of the low and middle-income countries (LMIC) have always been defined as "doubtful" to deal with public health crises of Covid pandemic magnitude, a flip-flop and incoherent response by the high-income countries (HIC) was unexpected. In the unprecedented moment of the pandemic, it is that we are beginning to find among ourselves, across the globe a search for stronger, resilient, scalable, and economy-efficient foundations in health systems that are capable of delivering healthcare to all. COVID-19 vaccination - Does it affect sick leave in military personnel?
CONCLUSIONS: Given the major effect of vaccination against COVID-19 by BNT162b2 vaccine on the probability of taking sick leave, when medically feasible, the timing of the vaccination should be considered by medical, military, and industrial authorities with the intent to minimize the effect on overall national economy and safety.PMID:37401325 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202306_32827

Global inequities in access to COVID-19 health products and technologies: A political economy analysis
Health Place. 2023 Jun 8;83:103051. doi: 10.1016/j.healthplace.2023.103051. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis paper presents a political economy analysis of global inequities in access to COVID-19 vaccines, treatments, and diagnostic tests. We adapt a conceptual model used for analysing the political economy of global extraction and health to examine the politico-economic factors affecting access to COVID-19 health products and technologies in four interconnected layers: the social, political, and historical context; politics, institutions, and policies; pathways to ill-health; and health consequences. Our analysis finds ...

The development of DNA vaccines against SARS-CoV-2
CONCLUSIONS: The DNA vaccine platform offers a promising solution to the design of effective vaccines. The challenge of limited immunogenicity in humans might be solved through the use of genetic modifications such as the addition of nuclear localization signal (NLS) peptide gene, strong promoters, MARs, introns, TLR agonists, CD40L, and the development of appropriate delivery systems utilizing nanoparticles to increase uptake by APCs in enhancing the induction of potent immune responses.PMID:37364379 | DOI:10.1016/j.advms.2023.05.003

Viral vectored vaccines: design, development, preventive and therapeutic applications in human diseases
Signal Transduct Target Ther. 2023 Apr 7;8(1):149. doi: 10.1038/s41392-023-01408-5.ABSTRACTHuman diseases, particularly infectious diseases and cancers, pose unprecedented challenges to public health security and the global economy. The development and distribution of novel prophylactic and therapeutic vaccines are the prioritized countermeasures of human disease. Among all vaccine platforms, viral vector vaccines offer distinguished advantages and represent prominent choices for pathogens that have hampered control efforts based on conventional vaccine approaches. Currently, viral vector vaccines remain one of the best st...
