Subarachnoid Hemorrhage with and without Concomitant Sickle Cell Disease, a Comparison Using the Nationwide Inpatient Sample (S4.004)
Conclusions: Based on these data, 2 out of every 1000 cases of SAH in the United States, will be related to SCD. SAH occurs at a much younger age in patients with SCD. Prognosis in patients with SAH related to SCD may be better than in non-SCD patients.Disclosure: Dr. Al Zahmi has nothing to disclose. Dr. Conners has nothing to disclose. Novel Application of Reversible Parental Anti-platelets in Patients with Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (P1.257)
CONCLUSION: Our results highlight safety of administering IV Eptifibatide to prevent thrombotic complications after endovascular coil embolization in select patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. Endovascular Internal Trapping of Ruptured Occipital Artery Pseudoaneurysm Associated with Occipital–Internal Jugular Vein Fistula in Neurofibromatosis Type 1
We report a case of ruptured occipital artery (OA) pseudoaneurysm associated with occipital–internal jugular vein (IJV) fistula in neurofibromatosis type 1. Endovascular internal trapping via the OA was attempted; however, the distal entry of the OA could not be accessed because of the high shunt flow and tortuosity of the OA. The distal part of the OA was obliterated with coil via a transvenous approach through the IJV and pseudoaneurysm.

Intra-Arterial Mesenchymal Stem Cells in a Large Animal Endovascular Canine Stroke Model: Findings on Serial Diffusion Tensor Imaging (S42.007)
Conclusions: Serial DTI-DTT imaging after IA cell therapy shows improvement in white matter tracts correlating with neurologic recovery. This supports further development of DTI-DTT biomarkers to measure neurologic recovery in experimental models as well as early clinical trials.Disclosure: Dr. Guada has nothing to disclose. Increased Resting Energy Expenditure after Endovascular Coiling for Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
Appropriate nutritional care from the acute stage is essential for improved functional outcomes and reduced mortality in patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Although endovascular coiling is increasingly being used as an alternative to neurosurgical clipping and craniotomy for ruptured aneurysms, the resting energy expenditure (REE) of patients treated with this new technique has not been systemically evaluated.

Extensive stretching of intracranial aneurysm coil causing TIAs
A 58-year-old man with a history of ruptured posterior cerebral artery aneurysm, repaired with coil embolization 5 years previously, presented with right hemi-numbness lasting 30 minutes. Cerebral MRI did not reveal acute stroke. CT angiogram showed a stretched wire complex extending through the posterior communicating artery, down the carotid artery, and into the most inferior visualized portion of descending aorta, terminating in a loosely coiled wire (figure, A and B). A transesophageal echocardiogram showed evidence of a possible thrombus on the coil in the aortic arch (figure, C and D; video on the Neurology® Web ...

Watch your neighbor's garden, or Delphi's oracle for unruptured intracranial aneurysm treatment
Current management recommendations for patients with unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs) include surgical clipping, endovascular coiling, or noninterventional follow-up.1 Several population-based studies and meta-analyses identified risk factors associated with aneurysm growth and rupture,2 some of which are modifiable (arterial hypertension, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption) and some of which are not (increasing age, female sex, ethnic origin, aneurysm size, and morphology); however, no randomized controlled data exist on the potential benefit of preventive intervention for UIAs. The multinational TEAM (Tri...

Clipping and Coiling of Unruptured Intracranial Aneurysms Among Medicare Beneficiaries, 2000 to 2010 Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Although outcomes tended to improve over time, increased preventative treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms among Medicare beneficiaries did not result in a population-level decrease in SAH rates.

Recurrent posterior circulation infarction caused by anomalous occipital bony process in a young patient
Conclusion: Arterial thromboembolism originating from the left vertebral artery compressed by the anomalous occipital bony process is a rare but not to be overlooked cause of posterior circulation infarction. When intractable to medical treatment, endovascular occlusion of the vertebral artery without flow disturbance to the posterior circulation may be a useful treatment option when surgical removal is not feasible.

Flow Diversion Versus Conventional Treatment for Carotid Cavernous Aneurysms Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— The use of PED should be encouraged, especially in symptomatic patients. We found PED to be associated with less need for future treatment, higher improvement in symptoms rate, and lower rate of complications.
