Combining Human Umbilical Cord Blood Cells With Erythropoietin Enhances Angiogenesis/Neurogenesis and Behavioral Recovery After Stroke
In conclusion, our results suggest that hUCBC infusion in combination with EPO administration demonstrates therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of stroke-induced injury by promoting neurogenesis and angiogenesis. Further research that delineates the therapeutic mechanism of systemically administered hUCBC and EPO is required. Ethics Statement All experimental procedures involving animals were performed in accordance with the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals as adopted and promulgated by the U. S. National Institutes of Health and were approved by CHA University Institutional Animal Care & Use Com...

From preoperative evaluation to stroke center: Management of postoperative acute ischemic stroke
This article reviews the perioperative management (covering diagnosis and treatment), prevention (covering surgery postponement, management with anticoagulant/antiplatelet and the growing interest in statins and beta-blockers) and intraoperative recommendations (covering anaesthetic techniques, ventilation strategies, transfusion and blood pressure management) specifically for the general surgical population. A summary of current treatments is enlightened by recently described evidence for the effectiveness of mechanical thrombectomy.

Stenosis Length and Degree Interact With the Risk of Cerebrovascular Events Related to Internal Carotid Artery Stenosis
Conclusion: We found a statistically insignificant tendency for the ultrasound-measured length of sICAS<70% to be longer than that of sICAS≥70%. Moreover, the ultrasound-measured length of sICAS<90% was significantly longer than that of sICAS 90%. Among patients with sICAS≥70%, the degree and length of stenosis were inversely correlated. Larger studies are needed before a clinical implication can be drawn from these results. Introduction Internal carotid artery stenosis (ICAS) causes around one-fifth of ischemic cerebrovascular stroke and has the highest risk of early stroke recurrence...

Data from New VOYAGER PAD Analyses at ACC.22 Reinforce Benefit of XARELTO ® (rivaroxaban) Plus Aspirin in Patients with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) and Various Co-Morbid Conditions
RARITAN, N.J., April 1, 2022 – The Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson today announced data from new analyses from the Phase 3 VOYAGER PAD clinical trial reinforcing the benefit of the XARELTO® (rivaroxaban) vascular dose (2.5 mg twice daily plus aspirin 100 mg once daily) in reducing severe vascular events in patients with PAD after lower-extremity revascularization (LER), a procedure that restores blood flow to the legs. Data from the two analyses demonstrate the role that the XARELTO® vascular dose plays in PAD patients with and without chronic kidney disease (CKD) and in PAD patients with and ...

Early outcomes of routine delayed shunting in carotid endarterectomy for symptomatic patients
CONCLUSIONS: Routine delayed shunting after plaque removal seems to be a safe and effective technique, that contributed to maintain a low complication rate in neurologically symptomatic patients. Statin use and expedited timing were associated with improved outcomes using this technique.PMID:34308613 | DOI:10.23736/S0021-9509.21.11845-2

E-107 Carotid artery stenting in patients with symptomatic non-stenotic carotid artery disease - a case series
ConclusionsIn this case series performed over a 10-year period at a high-volume stroke center we show that CAS is safe and efficient in patients with SyNC. Previous studies have established safety and effectiveness of CES in patients presenting with SyNC, however there is a paucity of reports in the literature regarding the effect of CAS in this patient population. Recent guidelines have brought specific attention to high-risk plaque characteristics which suggest that plaque instability plays a major role in the onset of ischemic events, regardless of lumen narrowing. Advanced imaging techniques, such as Optical Coherence ...

Durability of eversion carotid endarterectomy
Conclusions: The results of this study show that eversion CEA can be performed in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with an extremely low perioperative stroke/death risk and a negligible incidence of late restenosis/occlusion, thus assuring a persistently good protection against the risk of cerebral ischemia.

Carotid endarterectomy for symptomatic low-grade carotid stenosis
Conclusions: This study shows that CEA is a safe, effective, and durable treatment for patients with symptomatic low-grade carotid stenosis associated with unstable plaque. Patients had excellent protection against further ischemic events and survived long enough to justify the initial surgical risk. Plaque instability seems to play a major part in the onset of ischemic events, regardless the entity of lumen narrowing.

Pharmacological modification of the perioperative stress response in non-cardiac surgery
Publication date: Available online 7 April 2016 Source:Best Practice & Research Clinical Anaesthesiology Author(s): Hans-Joachim Priebe The perioperative period is associated with alterations in the neuroendocrine, metabolic, and immune systems, referred to as 'stress response'. The resultant increased sympathetic activity and elevated serum concentrations of catecholamines may adversely affect the cardiovascular system resulting in cardiovascular instability (hypertension, tachycardia, arrhythmia), morbidity (myocardial ischemia, myocardial infarction, stroke) and mortality (cardiac death, fatal stroke), partic...
