Abstract Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common arrhythmias in hemodialysis patients. We evaluated its clinical outcomes among hemodialysis patients with atrial fibrillation in Japan. Using data derived from the Japanese Dialysis Outcomes and Practice Patterns Study, we analyzed backgrounds and outcomes among hemodialysis patients with and without atrial fibrillation in Japan. Spinal ischemic stroke following dialysis: clinical and radiologic findings
Spinal cord ischemia (SCI) is a relatively common cause of noncompressive myelopathy.1 SCI frequently involves the thoracic or lumbar cord manifesting as acute painful paraparesis but may also involve the posterior columns and autonomic fibers.2 Most infarcts affect the central parts of the anterior spinal artery supply.2–4 Outcome depends on the initial severity of the neurologic deficits and may be surprisingly benign especially if proprioception remains intact.1,2 Because hypoperfusion may cause SCI,5,6 our goal was to describe SCI as a potential complication of hemodialysis-associated hypoperfusion.

High Stroke Volume Variation Is an Independent Predictor for Decreased Blood Pressure During Hemodialysis
Abstract It currently remains unclear whether stroke volume variation (SVV) before hemodialysis (HD) is an independent predictor of decreased blood pressure (BP) during HD. Fifty‐two patients were divided into two groups (Decreased BP during HD group: N = 10, Non‐decreased BP group: N = 42). Relation of Race, Apparent Disability, and Stroke Risk With Warfarin Prescribing for Atrial Fibrillation in Patients Receiving Maintenance Hemodialysis
We examined patterns of warfarin use, and associated factors, after AF diagnosis. This retrospective cohort analysis studied US Medicare patients receiving maintenance dialysis January 1, 2008-June 30, 2010. Demographics, comorbidity, and a durable medical equipment claims-based disability proxy score predicted warfarin prescription after AF diagnosis. The analysis included 8964 patients with non-valvular AF.

Conclusions:Higher predialysis SBP variability is associated with stroke on HD populations suggesting a potential role for cerebral perfusion instability. We confirm known associations between age, diabetes, pre-existent cerebrovascular disease and hypertension. In contrast to studies in non-dialysis patients we do not find an association between EPO dose and stroke. Interventional trials of blood pressure management on stroke are recommended.
