Serum neurofilament light chain in functionally relevant coronary artery disease and adverse cardiovascular outcomes
CONCLUSION: While sNfL concentrations did not show a diagnostic role for fCAD, in contrast, sNfL was a strong and independent predictor of cardiovascular outcomes, including all-cause death, cardiovascular death and stroke/TIA.PMID:36714921 | DOI:10.1080/1354750X.2023.2172211

Evaluation of Cranial and Cervical Arteries and Brain Tissue in Transient Ischemic Attack Patients with Magnetic Resonance Angiography and Diffusion-Weighted Imaging.
CONCLUSIONS Vessel characteristics were not significantly different between TIA and infarction patients. Unilateral vertebral artery hypoplasia was a predisposing factor for vertebrobasilar TIA and ischemic focus in DWI detection was always caused by severe artery lesions. Cerebral Venous Thrombosis.
Authors: Zuurbier SM, Coutinho JM Abstract Cerebral venous thrombosis is an important cause of stroke in the young. Unlike venous thromboembolism (VTE), women are affected three times more often than men by CVT. The most common symptoms are headache, seizures and focal neurological deficits. The diagnosis can be confirmed with MRI, CT-venography, or catheter angiography. An intracerebral hemorrhage is found on cerebral imaging in approximately 40 % of patients, and can range from small juxtacortical hemorrhages to large space-occupying lesions. Many risk factors for CVT have been reported, most of which overlap wi...

Intracranial Angioplasty with Enterprise Stent for Intracranial Atherosclerotic Stenosis: A Single-Center Experience and a Systematic Review
CONCLUSIONS: Intracranial angioplasty utilizing the Enterprise stent for ICAS treatment was relatively safe and effective but required further verification using additional sources for evidence.PMID:33959660 | PMC:PMC8075681 | DOI:10.1155/2021/6645500

Association Between Visit-to-Visit Variability in Blood Pressure and Cardiovascular Events in Hypertensive Patients After Successful Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.
CONCLUSION: Higher VVV in SBP and maximum SBP in patients with ACS after successful PCI were associated with the onset of MI. PMID: 26015820 [PubMed]

Infarct Size May Distinguish the Pathogenesis of Lacunar Infarction of the Middle Cerebral Artery Territory.
CONCLUSIONS Our data suggest that infarct lesion size may be used as a method to distinguish SVD and BAD in lacunar infarction patients with normal MCA. PMID: 26788612 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Risk Factors for Silent Lacunar Infarction in Patients with Transient Ischemic Attack.
CONCLUSIONS Age, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and carotid stenosis were independently associated with silent lacunar infarction in patients with TIA. PMID: 26864634 [PubMed - in process]

Original Research: Sickle cell anemia and pediatric strokes: Computational fluid dynamics analysis in the middle cerebral artery
Children with sickle cell anemia (SCA) have a high incidence of strokes, and transcranial Doppler (TCD) identifies at-risk patients by measuring blood velocities in large intracerebral arteries; time-averaged mean velocities greater than 200 cm/s confer high stroke risk and warrant therapeutic intervention with blood transfusions. Our objective was to use computational fluid dynamics to alter fluid and artery wall properties, to simulate scenarios causative of significantly elevated arterial blood velocities. Two-dimensional simulations were created and increasing percent stenoses were created in silico, with their locatio...

Aldehyde Dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) Glu504Lys Polymorphism Affects Collateral Circulation and Short-Term Prognosis of Acute Cerebral Infarction Patients.
CONCLUSIONS ALDH2 Glu504Lys could be a risk factor for collateral circulation and a negative predictor for short-term prognosis in acute cerebral infarction in Han Chinese. ALDH2 Glu504Lys could be a new therapeutic target for patients with acute cerebral infarction. PMID: 28939800 [PubMed - in process]

Cognitive Decline in Asymptomatic Middle Cerebral Artery Stenosis Patients with Moderate and Poor Collaterals: A 2-Year Follow-Up Study.
CONCLUSIONS MCAS patients with moderate and poor collateral circulation have impairment of ≥1 cognitive domain over time. The affected domains are consistent with the profile of vascular cognitive impairment. Good collateral circulation is more important in patients with MCAS, and is associated with less risk of cognitive disorders. PMID: 31148547 [PubMed - in process]
