Statins Use and Outcome of Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients after Systemic Thrombolysis
Conclusion: Our study does not show any significant association between risk of sICH and poor outcome after IVT for patients on prior statin therapy. We also did not find significant association between the risk of sICH and poor outcome after IVT and the intensity of the stain used.Cerebrovasc Dis

Combined therapy of intensive statin plus intravenous rt-PA in acute ischemic stroke: the INSPIRE randomized clinical trial
ConclusionThe INSPIRE study indicated that intensive statin therapy may not improve clinical outcomes compared with the low dose of statin therapy in AIS patients undergoing intravenous thrombolysis, and the two groups had similar safety profile.Clinical trial registrationURL:http://www.chictr.org. Effects of double-dose statin therapy for the prevention of post-stroke epilepsy: A prospective clinical study
Stroke is the leading cause of epilepsy and ranks among the top causes of death [1]. The overall incidence of post-stroke epilepsy (PSE), which is the main type of newly diagnosed epilepsy in elderly patients, is 3%-45% [2,3]. Therefore, the diagnosis and treatment of PSE has been extensively investigated.

Association of Prestroke Statin Use and Lipid Levels With Outcome of Intracerebral Hemorrhage Brief Reports
Conclusions— Premorbid statin use did not affect the outcome of ICH, but lower low-density lipoprotein levels were associated with higher in-hospital mortality.

Long-term Improvement in Outcome After Intracerebral Hemorrhage in Patients Treated with Statins
Conclusions: Statin use is associated with improved long-term outcome at 12 months after ICH. This finding supports previous clinical studies that have shown the short-term benefits of statin therapy. In addition, this study correlates with animal studies supporting the possible long-term recovery benefits of statins.

Number of Cerebral Microbleeds and Risk of Intracerebral Hemorrhage After Intravenous Thrombolysis Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— Our findings indicate a higher risk of sICH and PH after intravenous thrombolysis when multiple CMBs are present, with a graded relationship to increasing baseline CMB number.

Endovascular Treatment of Acute Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion: Comparison of Percutaneous Transluminal Angioplasty and Mechanical Embolectomy (P4.298)
CONCLUSIONS: Data from this national multicenter registry showed that both PTA and ME represent safe and effective recanalization methods of acute MCAo. Bridging therapy was associated with better clinical outcome in the case of ME+IVT than PTA+IVT combination. Prevention of Stroke in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Opinion statement Recognizing that systemic inflammation is a major contributor to the increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), including stroke, in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) serves as the basis for prevention strategies for cerebrovascular disease in RA. In addition to traditional cardiovascular risk factors, recognize that RA may be an independent risk factor for cerebrovascular accident (CVA). The risk of CVD should be assessed in each patient with RA, utilizing modified risk score calculators. Careful monitoring and control of systemic inflammation should be undertaken in conjunction with assessing eac...

Racial/Ethnic Variation in Carotid Artery Revascularization Utilization and Outcomes: Analysis From the National Cardiovascular Data Registry Clinical Sciences
Conclusion— During the study period, utilization of CAS and CEA was highest among non-Hispanic whites. There was a trend toward increased CAS utilization over time among non-Hispanic whites and other groups, and a trend toward increased CEA utilization among Hispanics and blacks. In-hospital major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events remained comparable between groups, whereas 30-day major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events were significantly higher in blacks.

Clinical Reasoning: A 66-year-old man with recurrent multi-territory infarcts
A 66-year-old man was referred to our center for evaluation of recurrent infarcts in multiple vascular territories over the preceding 6 months (figure 1). The patient first presented with a 3-month, stuttering course of transient neurologic deficits, including right arm and leg hemiparesis, expressive aphasia, and right homonymous hemianopia. He was initially evaluated at a community Stroke Prevention Clinic. His medical history was significant for several classic vascular risk factors: coronary artery disease requiring a coronary artery bypass graft, dyslipidemia for which he was taking atorvastatin 20 mg daily, and obstr...

Statins for poststroke seizures: The first antiepileptogenic agent?
Seizure following acute stroke occurs infrequently but represents a worrisome development. Worse, for a subset of patients, the acute monophasic neurologic condition—ischemia—can develop into a chronic active neurologic condition—epilepsy. In this issue of Neurology®, Guo et al.1 report that acute statin use reduces the risk of poststroke early-onset seizures and may also prevent the progression of initial poststroke seizures into chronic epilepsy.

Do Patient Characteristics Explain the Differences in Outcome Between Medically Treated Patients in SAMMPRIS and WASID? Clinical Sciences
Conclusions— After adjustment for confounding baseline characteristics, WASID patients had an almost 2-fold higher risk of the SAMMPRIS primary end point, which supports the hypothesis that the lower rate of the primary end point in the medical arm of SAMMPRIS compared with WASID patients was as a result of the aggressive medical management used in SAMMPRIS.
