Mechanical thrombectomy in tandem occlusion: procedural considerations and clinical results
Conclusion Acute stenting of the cervical ICA in combination with intracranial thrombectomy was technically feasible and safe in our series. Thrombectomy prior to proximal stenting was associated with shorter reperfusion times and a tendency towards better clinical outcome leading to a good outcome in about 50 % of the patients. Therefore, we recommend this approach in tandem occlusion requiring stent angioplasty.

Internal carotid artery stenting for intracranial atherosclerosis.
Abstract Intracranial atherosclerotic disease is a significant cause of stroke in the United States. Much like coronary atherosclerosis, this disease leads to arterial stenosis secondary to the buildup of lipid-based plaques in intracranial vessels. Ischemic stroke may occur following thromboembolic events near the site of stenosis or from watershed ischemia secondary to cerebral hypoperfusion. While this disease has been treated with intracranial angioplasty and stenting and cerebrovascular bypass surgery, the current literature supports aggressive medical management with dual antiplatelet therapy, treatment of c...

Low fixed dose of IV heparin as adjunct to internal carotid artery angioplasty and stent placement in patients with recent ischemic symptoms: A prospective protocol (P2.263)
CONCLUSION: Fixed low dose intravenous heparin as adjunct to CAS in patients with carotid artery stenosis and recent ischemic symptoms is associated with acceptable rates of adverse events and low rates of bleeding complications.Disclosure: Dr. Suri has nothing to disclose. The importance of and current trends in the endovascular program – A single center experience
Conclusion In the AAA group, the percentage of EVAR stabilized during the last 5 years at about 32% of the total number of treated patients. Given the excellent results of open carotid surgery and the unconvincing results of stenting trials, we consider open carotid surgery to be better than carotid artery primary stenting.

Comparative Review of the Treatment Methodologies of Carotid Stenosis
Int J AngiolDOI: 10.1055/s-0035-1545073The treatment of carotid stenosis entails three methodologies, namely, medical management, carotid angioplasty and stenting (CAS), as well as carotid endarterectomy (CEA). The North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET) and European Carotid Surgery Trial (ECST) have shown that symptomatic carotid stenosis greater than 70% is best treated with CEA. In asymptomatic patients with carotid stenosis greater than 60%, CEA was more beneficial than treatment with aspirin alone according to the Asymptomatic Carotid Atherosclerosis (ACAS) and Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Tr...

Two in One: Endovascular Treatment of Acute Tandem Occlusions in the Anterior Circulation
Conclusion Endovascular therapy of patients with tandem occlusion in the anterior circulation with emergency extracranial stenting and intracranial mechanical thrombectomy appears to be safe and may lead to a satisfactory angiographic result and clinical outcome.

Early cardiovascular events in women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus
Conclusions: A history of GDM was identified as a risk factor of CVD, especially coronary vascular diseases, within the 7 years postpartum. A lifestyle changes from postpartum onwards can be recommended and supported.

Recurrent Spells of Unresponsiveness Secondary to Bilateral Carotid Stenosis Caused by Giant Cell Arteritis (P4.373)
Conclusions: The presence of bilateral carotid stenosis in patients with GCA is strongly associated with future risk of neurologic deficits. A vertebrobasilar steal syndrome may be a manifestation of bilateral, severe carotid stenosis. It may be difficult to separate atherosclerotic lesions from vasculitic lesions related to GCA, however, the presence of localized focal stenosis with relatively healthy arteries above and below the lesions may point to a vasculitic process. Rigorous attention should be given to modification of atherosclerotic risk factors as well as recognizing and treating the rare manifestation of GCA.Dis...

Results of Carotid Endarterectomy Using Bovine Pericardium Patch Closure, with a Review of Pertinent Literature.
This study reviews a large carotid surgery series using this patch. Data were gathered on 464 consecutive carotid operations using the bovine pericardium patch; all complications were analyzed and pertinent literature review was performed. Of 464 procedures, 218 (47%) were performed for symptomatic disease. Total perioperative ipsilateral stroke rate was 0.65 per cent. A low rate of postoperative bleeding was noted. Recurrence of >70 per cent stenosis was 1.6 per cent at follow-up of 26 months in 410 patients. Handling was subjectively described as excellent. Literature review comprising 3239 carotid operations revealed...

Combined carotid endarterectomy and retrograde stenting of the supra-aortic trunk: Does cervical block offers advantages?
Atherosclerosis of the carotid artery is a major source of stroke. In some cases atherosclerosis occurs at several positions within the carotid artery. Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in combination with retrograde balloon angioplasty and stenting of a brachiocephalic or common carotid artery stenosis has been described as efficacious and save procedure to prevent stroke in these cases. The aim of this study was to analyse the impact of anaesthetic techniques on hemodynamic factors, operation time, duration of clamping and post-operative pain.

Innominate Artery Stenosis Presenting With Migratory Digital Ischemia
Conclusion: Migratory digital ischemia is a rare presentation of atherosclerotic disease of the supra-aortic vessels. It represents a challenging situation for endovascular intervention due to concern about plaque dislodgment during the procedure. A retrograde balloon-stent angioplasty following distal carotid control with an open approach may be safe and effective in selected patients.

Neurointerventional management in web vessels (P5.279)
Conclusions:Although few cases are reported in the literature, the stroke rate is high in this group of patients. Therefore all patients with this diagnosis must be treated. Endovascular treatment is presented as an effective form of treatment associated to a low morbidity rate and no ischemic event recurrences.Disclosure: Dr. Piske has nothing to disclose.
