Low Body Mass Index without Malnutrition Is an Independent Risk Factor for Major Cardiovascular Events in Patients with Hemodialysis
In conclusion, BMI < 18.5 without malnutrition may be an independent risk factor for MACE in patients with hemodialysis.PMID:36184553 | DOI:10.1536/ihj.22-333

Outcomes of Combined Heart-Kidney Transplantation in Older Recipients
CONCLUSION: Combined HKT is increasing in older recipients, and advanced age ≥65 should not preclude HKT.PMID:37396466 | PMC:PMC10314816 | DOI:10.1155/2023/4528828

Chronic renal disease is associated with stroke and thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation independently from gender
We have read with great interest the article by Guo and colleagues concerning renal dysfunction (defined as the presence of chronic dialysis, renal transplantation or an estimated glomerular filtration rate, eGFR,

Early High-Dose Rosuvastatin for Contrast-Induced Nephropathy Prevention in Acute Coronary Syndrome: Results From the PRATO-ACS Study (Protective Effect of Rosuvastatin and Antiplatelet Therapy On Contrast-Induced Acute Kidney Injury and Myocardial Damage in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome)
Conclusions: High-dose rosuvastatin given on admission to statin-naïve patients with ACS who are scheduled for an early invasive procedure can prevent CI-AKI and improve short-term clinical outcome. (Statin Contrast Induced Nephropathy Prevention [PRATO-ACS]; NCT01185938)

The effect of ramipril and telmisartan on serum potassium and its association with cardiovascular and renal events: Results from the ONTARGET trial
Conclusions With the precautions stipulated by the protocol of the ONTARGET trial, hypokalemia and hyperkalemia were infrequent events. Nevertheless, both high and low serum potassium were associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular and renal disease.

Perioperative outcomes after on- and off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting.
Abstract Although numerous reports describe the results of off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) at specialized centers and in select patient populations, it remains unclear how off-pump CABG affects real-world patient outcomes. We conducted a large, multicenter observational cohort study of perioperative death and morbidity in on-pump (ON) versus off-pump (OFF) CABG. We reviewed Veterans Affairs Surgical Quality Improvement Program data for all patients (N=65,097) who underwent isolated CABG from October 1997 through April 2011 (intention-to-treat data were available from 2005 onward). The primary outco...

Cardiovascular Risk Assessment Before and After Kidney Transplantation
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in dialysis patients and the most common cause of death and allograft loss among kidney transplant recipients. End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is associated with an increased incidence and prevalence of a wide range of CVDs including coronary artery disease, stroke, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation, sudden cardiac death, pulmonary hypertension, and valvular heart disease. CVD risk factors are very common in patients with ESRD, and most patients have multiple risk factors. Kidney transplantation is the treatment of choice for patients with ESRD, as a suc...
