Risk and risk factor of ischemic stroke after acute retinal arterial ischemia
ConclusionPatients have a high risk of ischemic stroke, particularly those with a diagnosis of ICAS ( ≥ 70%) or occlusion after the onset of ARAI. Clinical management of ARAI should focus on vascular risk factors control and secondary prevention for stroke.

The Role of Retinal Vascular Density as a Screening Tool for Ageing and Stroke
Conclusion: Age and stroke are significant risk factors for decreased RVD. Diabetes and arterial hypertension are additional significant risk factors in patients with stroke with respect to RVD.Ophthalmic Res

The mediating role of the venules between smoking and ischemic stroke
This study was part of a population-based study including 9109 stroke-free persons participated in the study in 1990, 2004, or 2006 (mean age: 63.7  years; 58% women). Smoking behavior (smoking versus non-smoking) was identified by interview. Retinal venular calibers were measured semi-automatically on retinal photographs. Incident strokes were assessed until January 2016. A regression-based approach was used with venular calibers as mediator to decompose the total effect of smoking compared to non-smoking into four components: controlled direct effect (neither mediation nor interaction), pure indirect effect (mediation o...

Association of serum retinoic acid with depression in patients with acute ischemic stroke.
This study was aimed to evaluate the relationship between RA levels in serum and post-stroke depression (PSD). A single-center (Chengdu, China) prospective cohort study was conducted on patients with acute ischemic stroke. The RA serum level was measured at admission. The PSD was assessed in the 3-month follow-up. The RA-PSD relationship was evaluated with conditional logistic regression. In total, 239 ischemic stroke cases and 100 healthy controls were included. The median RA serum level in patients with ischemic stroke was 2.45 ng/ml (interquartile range [IQR], 0.72-4.33), lower(P<0.001) than 3.89 ng/ml of those in co...

Plasma Retinol Binding Protein 4 as a Biomarker for Detecting Progressive Stroke and Prediction of Early Prognosis in Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSION: A low plasma RBP4 level on admission could be an independent risk factor of PS during hospitalization.PMID:34809546 | DOI:10.2174/1567202618666211122150730
