Quality of life among post-stroke Jordanian survivors: a prospective study
This study aims to assess the quality of life (QOL) and the related factors in patients post-stroke in Jordan. Prospective, the cross-sectional study recruited 100 participants with stroke from three public hospitals from December 1, 2021 to February 1, 2022. Patients with stroke were interviewed to fill the stroke-specific quality of life questionnaire. Forty-five per cent of the participants were male. More than half of the participants (53%) were married, and the average age of the participants was 63.6 (SD =3.8). Most of the participants had an ischemic stroke (86%) with an affected left side (65%). The overall Q...

Increased risk for dementia both before and after stroke: A population-based study in women followed over 44  years
Discussion There is an increased risk for dementia both before and after stroke. This has implications for understanding the relation between the two disorders and for prevention of dementia and stroke.

Psychometric Characteristics of the Mutuality Scale in Stroke Patients and Caregivers.
This study tested the theoretical dimensions of the MS in stroke patients and their caregivers. From a scientific and clinical point of view, an assessment of stroke patient and caregiver mutuality would allow dyadic approaches to data analysis and care that account for the nonindependence between the stroke patient and the caregiver. Stroke severity and outcomes for octogenarians receiving statins
Abstract: Pre-exposure to 3-hydroxy-3-methylgutaryl-coenzyne A reductase inhibitors (statins) appears to improve outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Whether this extends to patients over 80 is not known. Patients ≥80 years of age with AIS were retrospectively reviewed from the stroke registry of a tertiary stroke center. Pre-admission statin use, demographics, vascular risk factors, and comorbid conditions were assessed. Primary outcomes were admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores and in-hospital mortality/discharge to hospice, and secondary outcomes included subsequent int...

Epidemiological, Clinical, and Pathogenic Features of Stroke at Elderly and Very Elderly Age
AbstractA comparative investigation of the epidemiological, clinical, and pathogenetic indices of cerebral stroke in 1153 representatives of different age has been conducted. The prevalence of the incidence of strokes among women of elderly and very elderly age is largely due to the higher life expectancy of women compared to men. A significant number of intracerebral blood effusions in elderly and very elderly age can arise secondarily after ischemic focus formation of the type of “red softening.” This, to a certain extent, can be explained by the high frequency of somatic complications of stroke, disorders of conscio...

Implementation of a Transitional Care Model for Stroke: Perspectives From Frontline Clinicians, Administrators, and COMPASS-TC Implementation Staff.
DISCUSSION AND IMPLICATIONS: Multifaceted TC models are challenging to implement. Facilitators of implementation were organizational commitment and capacity, prioritizing implementation of innovative delivery models to provide comprehensive care, being able to address challenges quickly, implementing systems for tracking patients throughout the intervention, providing clinicians with autonomy and support to address challenges, and adequately resourcing the intervention. A very unusual organism causing stroke-like symptoms
A 78-year-old man presented to hospital with new onset confusion and fever. The working diagnosis was of delirium due to an infection of unknown source, and empirical i.v. antibiotic treatment was given. Two days later, he deteriorated and developed clinical features in keeping with a total anterior circulation stroke. Brain imaging was unremarkable. Blood cultures grew an organism subsequently identified as Facklamia languida. Following treatment with broad-spectrum antibiotics, his condition improved. A diagnosis of F. languida septicaemia, leading to presumed (unwitnessed) seizure and Todd's paresis was made. The patien...

Optimizing Participation of Older Adults with Cognitive Deficits Post-stroke: Types of Help and Caregiver Burden.
Abstract ABSTRACTThis longitudinal mixed-method study examined the types of help provided by caregivers to optimize participation of older adults with cognitive deficits post-stroke (care recipients), and how these types of help varied with caregiver's burden. Twelve family caregivers of care recipients post-stroke completed a burden questionnaire and semi-structured interviews one month, three months, and six months following care recipient's discharge home from acute care, rehabilitation, or day hospital. Care recipients completed cognitive tests and a social participation questionnaire. Types of help caregivers...

Relationship of Functional Outcome With Sarcopenia and Objectively Measured Physical Activity in Patients With Stroke Undergoing Rehabilitation
This study aimed to investigate the relationship of Functional Independence Measure for motor function (FIM-M) with sarcopenia, and physical activity in patients with stroke undergoing rehabilitation. This cross-sectional study included patients with stroke at a single convalescent rehabilitation hospital. Sarcopenia was diagnosed based on the Asia Working Group for Sarcopenia 2019 criteria. Physical activity was measured as the duration of light-intensity physical activity and moderate to vigorous physical activity using a triaxial accelerometer. Of 80 patients (median age: 72.0 years), 46 (57.5%) were diagnosed with sarc...
