A deep learning-based drug repurposing screening and validation for anti-SARS-CoV-2 compounds by targeting the cell entry mechanism
Biochem Biophys Res Commun. 2023 Jul 12;675:113-121. doi: 10.1016/j.bbrc.2023.07.018. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe recent outbreak of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has been a severe threat to the global public health and economy, however, effective drugs to treat COVID-19 are still lacking. Here, we employ a deep learning-based drug repositioning strategy to systematically screen potential anti-SARS-CoV-2 drug candidates that target the cell entry mechanism of SARS-CoV-2 virus from 2635 FDA-approved drugs and 1062 active ingredients from Tra...

Research Progress of Immunomodulation on Anti-COVID-19 and the Effective Components from Traditional Chinese Medicine
Am J Chin Med. 2023 Jul 19:1-24. doi: 10.1142/S0192415X23500611. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSARS-CoV-2 has posed a threat to the health of people around the world because of its strong transmission and high virulence. Currently, there is no specific medicine for the treatment of COVID-19. However, for a wide variety of medicines used to treat COVID-19, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) plays a major role. In this paper, the effective treatment of COVID-19 using TCM was consulted first, and several Chinese medicines that were frequently used apart from their huge role in treating it were found. Then, when exploring the ...

Golden berry leaf extract containing withanolides suppresses TNF- α and IL-17 induced IL-6 expression in HeLa Cells
In this study, we established an experimental system for overexpression of IL-6 in HeLa cells stimulated by TNF-α and IL-17, along with identification of anti-inflammatory materials and components from local agricultural, forestry, and fishery resources. We constructed a library of extracts from natural sources, of which 111 samples were evaluated for their anti-inflammatory activities. The MeOH extract of Golden Berry (Physalis peruviana L) leaf was found to exhibit strong anti-inflammatory properties (IC50 = 4.97 µg/mL). Preparative chromatography identified two active constituents, 4β-hydroxywithanolide E (4β-HWE) (...

COVID-19 Associated Thyroid Dysfunction and Other Comorbidities and Its Management Using Phytochemical-Based Therapeutics- A Natural Way
Biosci Rep. 2023 May 2:BSR20230293. doi: 10.1042/BSR20230293. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe present severe acute respiratory syndrome-2 (SARS-CoV-2) mediated Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19) and post-COVID-19 complications affect human life drastically. Patients who have been cured of COVID-19 infection are now experiencing post-COVID-19 associated comorbidities, which have increased mortality rates. The SARS-CoV-2 infection distresses the lungs, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, and various endocrine glands, including the thyroid. The emergence of variants which includes Omicron (B.1.1.529) and its lineages threaten the...
