Can variants, reinfection, symptoms and test types affect COVID-19 diagnostic performance? A large-scale retrospective study of AG-RDTs during circulation of Delta and Omicron variants, Czechia, December 2021 to February 2022
ConclusionSensitivity for Omicron was lower in subgroups that may become more common if SARS-CoV-2 becomes an endemic virus.PMID:37733239 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.38.2200938

Intranasal VLP-RBD vaccine adjuvanted with BECC470 confers immunity against Delta SARS-CoV-2 challenge in K18-hACE2-mice
Vaccine. 2023 Jun 28:S0264-410X(23)00783-1. doi: 10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.06.080. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs the COVID-19 pandemic transitions into endemicity, seasonal boosters are a plausible reality across the globe. We hypothesize that intranasal vaccines can provide better protection against asymptomatic infections and more transmissible variants of SARS-CoV-2. To formulate a protective intranasal vaccine, we utilized a VLP-based platform. Hepatitis B surface antigen-based virus like particles (VLP) linked with receptor binding domain (RBD) antigen were paired with the TLR4-based agonist adjuvant, BECC 470. K18-hA...

Hepatitis B reactivation: A possible cause of coronavirus disease 2019 vaccine induced hepatitis
CONCLUSIONS: COVID-19 vaccine induced hepatitis is a clinical significant complication, and HBV reactivation may account for a possible mechanism.PMID:37349170 | PMC:PMC10281508 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2023.06.007

The PHH-1V HIPRA vaccine: a new tool in the vaccination strategy against COVID-19
CONCLUSIONS: The physicochemical properties, formulation, immunogenicity and low reactogenic profile of PHH-1V confirm the appropriateness of this new COVID-19 vaccine.PMID:37303137 | DOI:10.37201/req/046.2023

Surveillance To Track Progress Toward Poliomyelitis Eradication - Worldwide, 2021-2022
This report updates previous reports (7,9) to describe surveillance performance during 2021-2022 in 34 priority countries.* In 2022, a total of 26 (76.5%) priority countries met the two key AFP surveillance performance indicator targets nationally compared with 24 (70.6%) countries in 2021; however, substantial gaps remain in subnational areas. Environmental surveillance expanded to 725 sites in priority countries, a 31.1% increase from the 553 sites reported in 2021. High-quality surveillance is critical to rapidly detect poliovirus transmission and enable prompt poliovirus outbreak response to stop circulation. Frequent ...
