Effects of pneumoperitoneum on hemodynamics evaluated by continuous noninvasive arterial pressure monitoring. A single-center observational study
CONCLUSIONS: In patients undergoing elective cholecystectomy, CNAP monitoring showed significant hemodynamic changes that would have been underappreciated with standard non-invasive monitoring with increase in arterial elastance under stable preload conditions. Whether this effect is due to unknown cardiovascular diseases facilitating ventriculo-arterial decoupling remains to be determined.KEY WORDS: Arterial Elastance, Cardiac Outp, Pneumoperitoneum, Stroke Volume, Stroke Volume Variation.PMID:37530058

The Functional Prognosis of Rescue Conscious Sedation During Mechanical Thrombectomy on Patients with Acute Anterior Circulation Ischemic Stroke: A Single-Center Retrospective Study
ConclusionCompared to LA, rescue CS during MT does  not significantly improve the 90 days of good prognosis and reduce the incidence of sICH and mortality in patients with anterior circulation AIS. However, it has a significantly increased risk of poststroke pneumonia (PSP), particularly in patients with dysphagia.

E-107 Carotid artery stenting in patients with symptomatic non-stenotic carotid artery disease - a case series
ConclusionsIn this case series performed over a 10-year period at a high-volume stroke center we show that CAS is safe and efficient in patients with SyNC. Previous studies have established safety and effectiveness of CES in patients presenting with SyNC, however there is a paucity of reports in the literature regarding the effect of CAS in this patient population. Recent guidelines have brought specific attention to high-risk plaque characteristics which suggest that plaque instability plays a major role in the onset of ischemic events, regardless of lumen narrowing. Advanced imaging techniques, such as Optical Coherence ...

E-115 Trans-radial versus trans-femoral access routes for diagnostic cerebral angiograms: a large single-center comparative cost-analysis study
ConclusionOverall, our study shows that the TR approach can be less a less expensive option for patients undergoing diagnostic cerebral angiograms, especially if complications occur. Future studies can corroborate our findings and potentially lead to the adoption of TR as a low-cost, efficient, gold-standard technique for cerebral angiography.Costs (dollars) Associated with Trans-Radial Versus Trans-Femoral AccessAbstract E-115 Table 1 Variable Trans-Femoral (n=314) Trans-Radial(n=612) P-value Total Cost, mean (SD) 12591.8 (19128) 12789.5 (18424) .88 Catheters, median (range) 12.4 (12.4-1900) 55.2 (12.4-369) .03 Closure d...

O-021 Concurrent middle meningeal artery embolization for treatment of chronic subdural hematomas
This study provides evidence from a multi-institutional cohort that performing concurrent MMAe in the perioperative period as an adjunct to surgical evacuation is a safe and effective means to reduce surgical recurrence in patients with NASHs.Abstract O-021 Table 1Procedural details of 145 patients (149 NASHs) who underwent concurrent MMAe Characteristic Value (range or%) Antiplatelet/anticoagulation use Antiplatelet 46/147* (31) Anticoagulant 29/148* (20) Both 9/148* (6) Prior SDH evacuation 38/149* (26) Perioperative platelet count < 100K 8/148* (5) Procedure details Anesthesia General 63/149* (42) MAC 57/149* (38) C...

P-013 The need for speed: reducing endovascular treatment times in ischemic stroke
ConclusionsImproving awareness of process expectations by meeting with stakeholders resulted in a substantial and sustainable decreases in median door to groin puncture and door to first pass times. Implementation of hospital-based PI multidisciplinary team initiatives helped improve our sites work flow and continued to improve our door to 1st pass times.Disclosures H. Shownkeen: None. A. E-248 Rescue intracranial stenting for failed posterior circulation thrombectomy: analysis from saint study
ConclusionIn patients with posterior circulation occlusion stokes who failed mechanical thrombectomy, our study suggests that RS has better outcomes with comparable safety profile. Use of neuromuscular blockade for neck dissection and association with iatrogenic nerve injury
CONCLUSIONS: In this study, use of neuromuscular blockade intraoperatively during neck dissection was not associated with increased rates of iatrogenic cranial nerve injury. While this investigation provides early support for safe use of neuromuscular blockade during neck dissection, future investigation with greater power remains necessary.PMID:37507689 | DOI:10.1186/s12871-023-02217-7

Systematic underestimation of human hand weight
Curr Biol. 2023 Jul 24;33(14):R758-R759. doi: 10.1016/j.cub.2023.05.041.ABSTRACTAccording to Newton's laws, the weight of a body part is equal to its mass times gravitational acceleration. Our experience of body part weight, however, is constructed by the central nervous system. No sensory receptors directly specify the weight of body parts, and the factors influencing perceived weight remain unknown. The perceived weight of held objects has been linked to sensations of the magnitude of central motor commands sent to the muscles, what Helmholtz called the effort of will and has subsequently been called the sense of effort1...
