Machine learning-based identification of symptomatic carotid atherosclerotic plaques with dual-energy computed tomography angiography
This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning model incorporating both dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) angiography quantitative parameters and clinically relevant risk factors for the identification of symptomatic carotid plaques to prevent acute cerebrovascular events.

Effects of intensive lipid lowering compared with moderate-intensity lipid lowering on coronary atherosclerotic plaque phenotype and major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with low to intermediate 10-year ASCVD risk (ILLUMINATION study): protocol for a multicentre, open-label, blinded-endpoint, randomised controlled trial
Introduction Current guidelines recommend moderate-intensity lipid lowering (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, LDL-C of <2.6 mmol/L or 30%–49% reduction from the baseline) for patients with intermediate 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk. The effects of intensive lipid lowering (LDL-C of <1.8 mmol/L) on coronary atherosclerotic plaque phenotype and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in adults with both non-obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) and low to intermediate 10-year ASCVD risk remain uncertain. Methods and analysis Intensive Lipid-lowering for Plaque and Major A...

RNF213 p.Arg4810Lys Wild Type is Associated with De Novo Hemorrhage in Asymptomatic Hemispheres with Moyamoya Disease
This study aimed to investigate the association ofRNF213 variants with clinical phenotypes in MMD. This retrospective cohort study collected data regarding the clinical characteristics of 139 patients with MMD and evaluated the angioarchitectures of 253 hemispheres using digital subtraction angiography at diagnosis. AllRNF213 exons were sequenced, and the associations of clinical characteristics and angiographical findings with p.Arg4810Lys, p.Ala4399Thr, and other rare variants (RVs) were examined. Among 139 patients, 100 (71.9%) had p.Arg4810Lys heterozygote (GA) and 39 (28.1%) had the wild type (GG). Fourteen RVs were i...

Clinical characteristics, risk factors, and prognostic analyses of coronary small vessel disease: a retrospective cohort study of 986 patients
CONCLUSION: Compared to non-CSVD, CSVD was associated with more complex lesions, had worse revascularization efficacy, and a poorer prognosis.PMID:37259582 | DOI:10.1080/00325481.2023.2221110

Outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy at a single-centre tertiary level public healthcare hospital in South Africa
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated similar rates of recanalisation and functional independence to that seen in trials in high-income countries using basic imaging despite a higher mortality and longer median time to reperfusion. This data supports the effectiveness of MT in a tertiary level public hospital in South Africa despite the challenges of providing emergent stroke care in a resource-constrained setting.PMID:37259571 | DOI:10.1177/15910199231178163

Assessment of thrombectomy procedure difficulty by neurointerventionalists based on vessel geometry parameters from carotid artery 3D reconstructions
CONCLUSIONS: Examining the vessel metrics and providing detailed vascular data tailored to patient characteristics may result in better procedure preparation, facilitate faster vessel access time, and improve thrombectomy outcomes. Additionally, documenting these correlations can enhance device design to ensure they suitably function under various vessel conditions.PMID:37262981 | DOI:10.1016/j.jocn.2023.05.014
