Comparison of Serum Selenium Levels Between Patients with Newly Diagnosed Atrial Fibrillation and Normal Controls
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2022 May 9. doi: 10.1007/s12011-022-03281-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained dysrhythmia in the elderly population. It is estimated to affect more than 30 million people worldwide. AF occurs when abnormal electrical impulses start to activate in the atria and override the heart's natural pacemaker, which can no longer control the heart's rhythm. Since atrial contractility is impaired in AF, blood flow in the atria becomes stasis over time and causes thrombus formation. This thrombus causes the risk of embolism and causes complications such as stroke. ...

Po-625-05 electrocardiographic deep terminal negative of the p wave in v1 and ischemic stroke:the atherosclerosis risk in communities (aric) study
Abnormal P-wave indices are associated with ischemic stroke independent of atrial fibrillation (AF). Deep terminal negative of the P wave in V1 (DTNPV1) is a simple ECG index that reflects underlying left atrial remodeling. However, it is unknown whether DTNPV1 is associated with ischemic stroke.

Evaluating the Risk of Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation in Noncardioembolic Ischemic Stroke Using Artificial Intelligence-Enabled ECG Algorithm
CONCLUSION: Using AI-ECG-AF, we found that noncardioembolic IS patients had a higher PAF risk relative to the general patient population. The results from our study imply the need for more vigorous cardiac monitoring in noncardioembolic IS patients. AI-ECG-AF can be a cost-effective screening tool to identify high-risk noncardioembolic IS patients of PAF on-the-spot to be candidates for receiving additional prolonged cardiac monitoring. Our study highlights the potential of AI in clinical practice.PMID:35463788 | PMC:PMC9024295 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.865852

A First-in-Human Study of AMG 986, a Novel Apelin Receptor Agonist, in Healthy Subjects and Heart Failure Patients
ConclusionsIn healthy subjects and HF patients, short-term AMG 986 treatment was well tolerated. Consistent with this observation, clinically meaningful pharmacodynamic effects in HF patients were not observed. Changes in ejection fraction and stroke volume in HF patients suggest additional studies may be needed to better define the clinical utility and optimal dosing for this molecule.Trial Registration NumberClinicalTrials.gov NCT03276728.Date of RegistrationSeptember 8, 2017

Cost-effectiveness of screening for atrial fibrillation in a single primary care center at a 3-year follow-up
CONCLUSION: Screening for AF among 70-74-year olds in primary care using intermittent ECG appears to be cost-effective at 3-year follow-up with high anticoagulants adherence and no increased mortality.PMID:35389311 | DOI:10.1080/14017431.2022.2060523

Negative Risk Markers for Cardiovascular Risk Evaluation in Chinese Adults
CONCLUSIONS: Lipoprotein(a) ≤ 5 mg/dL, normal ECG, and CIMT ≤ 0.5 mm might be used as negative non-traditional risk markers to correctly downgrade predicted ASCVD risk in Chinese adults.PMID:35369305 | PMC:PMC8964789 | DOI:10.3389/fcvm.2022.800671

Prognostic significance of first-degree atrioventricular block in a large Asian population: a prospective cohort study
Conclusions Our results indicated that first-degree AVB was an independent risk factor for adverse events, suggesting that it should not be considered as inconsequential factor in general population. These results have potential clinical value for identifying individuals at high risk for adverse outcomes.

Prognostic value of preoperative electrocardiography in predicting myocardial injury after vascular surgery
CONCLUSION: This study confirmed that preoperative ECG abnormalities are frequent in patients undergoing high-risk vascular surgery. However, we did not find evidence supporting relation between preoperative ECG abnormalities and postoperative adverse cardiac outcomes in high risk patients.PMID:35344585 | DOI:10.33963/KP.a2022.0085

Prevalence of atherosclerosis and association with 5-year outcome: The Norwegian Stroke in the Young Study
CONCLUSION: Atherosclerosis is highly prevalent even in young stroke patients. Some areas and increasing NAA are associated with CVEs and death.PMID:35342817 | PMC:PMC8948509 | DOI:10.1177/23969873211059472
