Usefulness of one-arm motorized gait device for chronic hemiplegic stroke survivors

Falls and Use of Assistive Devices in Stroke Patients with Hemiparesis: Association with Balance Ability and Fall Efficacy.
CONCLUSIONS: Stroke patients with fall experience and walking aids might be considered at increased risk of falling. Lower Limb Neuromuscular Function and Blood Flow Characteristics in AFO-Using Survivors of Stroke

Abstract 272: Preliminary Data from RESOLVE (Rapid Evaluation for Stroke Outcomes using Lytics in Vascular Events) Study Session Title: Poster Session II
Conclusions: Preliminary findings showed that less than half of the patients and CG felt the education was clear. However additional interviews are planned. Preliminary insights suggest an opportunity to use an individualized risk and benefit decision tool to inform and engage patients and CG regarding treatment decisions. We believe this can be accomplished without increasing the door to needle time in administration of rt-PA.

Symptoms of stroke-related visual impairment.
CONCLUSIONS: Of those with no visual symptoms, 85% had objectively measured visual impairment. Conversely, 6.5% of those with visual symptoms had normal orthoptic examinations. Thus the presence or absence of visual symptoms does not infer absence or presence of visual impairment and may relate to recovery of visual impairment, cognitive, or communication impairment. The regularity of orthosis use and the reasons for disuse in stroke patients
This is a Retrospective descriptive study. Orthoses and walking aids are used frequently in stroke rehabilitation to facilitate ambulation. The aim was to describe the regularity of orthosis use and the reasons for disuse in stroke after discharge from inpatient rehabilitation. The study included 64 (43 men, 21 women) subacute stroke patients who had been discharged from our clinic in the last 6 months. CONCLUSIONS:Persistent IONM changes had a strong correlation with new post-operative deficits. Transient IONM changes, including those resolving after alterations in surgical management or pre-embolization methohexital testing, had a much lower risk of new deficits. A stair-climbing test for measuring mechanical efficiency of ambulation in adults with chronic stroke.
Conclusion: With a minimal detectable change of 0.6% (0.053 of average MEnet score of 10.4%), MEnet values from the stair-climbing test seem sufficiently meaningful to estimate ambulatory ability and its changes with interventions or walking aids in adults with hemiparesis. Implications for Rehabilitation Ambulatory ability can be estimated from mechanical efficiency, obtained from a 5-min stair-climbing test utilizing a 4-step stair, to measure external work, and the change in heart rate above rest to estimate the metabolic cost of the task.
