Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on Chinese assisted reproductive technology institutions and human sperm banks: reflections in the post-pandemic era
CONCLUSIONS: Given the growing frequency of outbreaks of global infectious diseases in recent years, ART institutions and human sperm banks should pay attention to improving their prevention and control capabilities. To a certain extent, decisions and measures adopted in China during COVID-19 pandemic are worthy of recognition and acceptance. Chinese scholars have discussed, proactively responded to and understand the key issues surrounding ART development during the pandemic with the aim of contributing to the substantial progress and healthy development of ART services in the world.PMID:37592335 | PMC:PMC10436387 | DOI:1...

Nurse Practitioner Regulatory Assessment: Transitioning From an Onsite to a Virtual Format
Comput Inform Nurs. 2023 Aug 15. doi: 10.1097/CIN.0000000000001061. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe Nurse Practitioner Onsite Peer Review is an integral part of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives Quality Assurance program. Traditionally an in-person assessment, Nurse Practitioner Onsite Peer Review involves a critical review of documentation by an experienced nurse practitioner assessor against regulatory standards and entry-level competencies. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting environmental limitations required the college to rethink its approach to onsite reviews, resulting in the qualit...

Molecular and genetic regulations of fleshy fruit shape and lessons from < em > Arabidopsis < /em > and rice
Hortic Res. 2023 Jun 7;10(7):uhad108. doi: 10.1093/hr/uhad108. eCollection 2023 Jul.ABSTRACTFleshy fruit shape is an important external quality trait influencing the usage of fruits and consumer preference. Thus, modification of fruit shape has become one of the major objectives for crop improvement. However, the underlying mechanisms of fruit shape regulation are poorly understood. In this review we summarize recent progress in the genetic basis of fleshy fruit shape regulation using tomato, cucumber, and peach as examples. Comparative analyses suggest that the OFP-TRM (OVATE Family Protein - TONNEAU1 Recruiting Motif) an...

Epithelial inflammasomes, gasdermins, and mucosal inflammation - Lessons from Salmonella and Shigella infected mice
Semin Immunol. 2023 Aug 8;70:101812. doi: 10.1016/j.smim.2023.101812. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBesides its crucial function in nutrient absorbance and as barrier against the microbiota, the gut epithelium is essential for sensing pathogenic insults and mounting of an appropriate early immune response. In mice, the activation of the canonical NAIP/NLRC4 inflammasome is critical for the defense against enterobacterial infections. Activation of the NAIP/NLRC4 inflammasome triggers the extrusion of infected intestinal epithelial cells (IEC) into the gut lumen, concomitant with inflammasome-mediated lytic cell death. The m...

Five years of caplacizumab - Lessons learned and remaining controversies in immune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura
J Thromb Haemost. 2023 Aug 8:S1538-7836(23)00591-3. doi: 10.1016/j.jtha.2023.07.027. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTImmune-mediated thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (iTTP) is a rare hematologic disease caused by autoantibodies against ADAMTS13 that trigger a microangiopathic hemolytic anemia. Therapeutic plasma exchange and glucocorticoids have been the mainstay of treatment for the past 30 years. In 2019, caplacizumab was approved as an addition to this regimen for the acute treatment of iTTP. Randomized controlled trials and real-world evidence have shown that caplacizumab reduces the time to platelet count normalizati...
