Antileishmanial metallodrugs and the elucidation of new drug targets linked to post-translational modifications machinery: pitfalls and progress
Mem Inst Oswaldo Cruz. 2022 Mar 23;117:e210403. doi: 10.1590/0074-02760220403. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTDespite the increasing number of manuscripts describing potential alternative antileishmanial compounds, little is advancing on translating these knowledges to new products to treat leishmaniasis. This is in part due to the lack of standardisations during pre-clinical drug discovery stage and also depends on the alignment of goals among universities/research centers, government and pharmaceutical industry. Inspired or not by drug repurposing, metal-based antileishmanial drugs represent a class that deserves more attentio...

“Chagas Express XXI”: A new ArtScience social technology for health and science education—A case study in Brazilian endemic areas of Chagas disease with an active search of chronic cases
ConclusionsCE21 is a social technology potentially useful for health and science education and active search of asymptomatic CD chronic cases. Moreover, this technology may be adapted to understand and to cooperate in other potentially epidemic situations, especially NTDs related.

Geographical distribution of Leishmania species in Colombia, 1985-2017.
CONCLUSION: Information on the distribution of Leishmania species in Colombia is limited; therefore, it is necessary to gather existing data and propose studies that consolidate the distribution maps of Leishmania species in Colombia. This would allow the detection of areas where species have not been identified as well as the comparison of existing parasite and vector distributions. PMID: 31529815 [PubMed - in process]

Species Diversity, Phylogeny, Divergence Time, and Biogeography of the Genus Sanghuangporus (Basidiomycota)
This study also shows that Tropicoporus is as a sister genus to Sanghuangporus (MP = 100%, ML = 100%, and BPP = 1.00). Group A contains five Sanghuangporus species from Europe, East Asia, and North America. In the combined dataset topology (Figure 2), S. vaninii, S. pilatii, and S. quercicola are grouped together, with significant supports from the MP/ML/BI analyses (MP = 99%, ML = 98%, BPP = 1.00). These three species share several morphological synapomorphies including (1) a dark brown pileal surface and a buff-yellow pore surface; (2) similar dimitic hyphal structure; (3) basidiospores ovoid to broadly ellipsoid (Wu et...

Expanding Research Capacity in Sub-Saharan Africa Through Informatics, Bioinformatics, and Data Science Training Programs in Mali
Conclusion Bioinformatics and data science training programs in developing countries necessitate incremental and collaborative strategies for their feasible and sustainable development. The progress described here covered decades of collaborative efforts centered on training and research on computationally intensive topics. These efforts laid the groundwork and platforms conducive for hosting a bioinformatics and data science training program in Mali. Training programs are perhaps best facilitated through Africa’s university systems as they are perhaps best positioned to maintain core resources during lapses in sho...
