Brain Citrullination Patterns and T Cell Reactivity of Cerebrospinal Fluid-Derived CD4+ T Cells in Multiple Sclerosis
We report many of them for the first time. For the already described citrullinated proteins MBP, GFAP, and vimentin, we could identify additional citrullinated sites. The number of modified proteins in MS white matter was higher than control tissue. Citrullinated peptides are considered neoepitopes that may trigger autoreactivity. We used newly identified epitopes and previously reported immunodominant myelin peptides in their citrullinated and non-citrullinated form to address the recognition of CSF-infiltrating CD4+ T cells from 22 MS patients by measuring proliferation and IFN-γ secretion. We did not detect ...

A search map for organic additives and solvents applicable in high-voltage rechargeable batteries
Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2016, Advance Article DOI: 10.1039/C6CP05800K, PaperMin Sik Park, Insun Park, Yoon-Sok Kang, Dongmin Im, Seok-Gwang Doo A search map composed of the redox potentials of [similar]1 000 000 organic compounds is theoretically generated for finding novel electrolytes. The quantitative relationship between the redox potentials and functional groups is suggested. The cycle performance of lithium ion batteries is improved by applying a screened anodic additive. Sensors, Vol. 23, Pages 5465: Li2100deplMoO4 Scintillating Bolometers for Rare-Event Search Experiments
We report on the development of scintillating bolometers based on lithium molybdate crystals that contain molybdenum that has depleted into the double-β active isotope 100Mo (Li2100deplMoO4). We used two Li2100deplMoO4 cubic samples, each of which consisted of 45-millimeter sides and had a mass of 0.28 kg; these samples were produced following the purification and crystallization protocols developed for double-β search experiments with 100Mo-enriched Li2MoO4 crystals. Bolometric Ge detectors were utilized to register the scintillation photons that were emitted by the Li2100deplMoO4 crystal scintil...

What Causes Hypercalcemia?
Discussion Calcium homeostasis is regulated by mechanisms involving the absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, bone deposition and resorption, and renal excretion. To review Vitamin D homeostasis click here. Serum calcium is found in three forms: free (47%), protein bound (43%) and diffusable calcium complexes (10%). The protein binding proteins are albumin (80%) and globulin (20%). The free calcium is the most important biologically. Acidosis also increases free calcium and alkalosis decreases free calcium. Problems associated with hypercalcemia include nausea, emesis, abdominal pain, constipation, polyuria, dehydra...

Tamoxifen May Reduce Mania in Patients With Bipolar Disorder But Questions Remain
Tamoxifen, a medication commonly used to treat breast cancer, appears to hold some promise as a treatment for mania, according to asystematic review and meta-analysisappearing in theJournal of Psychopharmacology.Tamoxifen has been proposed as a treatment for bipolar disorder because it acts on cells in a way similar to lithium and valproate —both of which are effective medications for bipolar disorder. However, the current review found most studies focused on the effect of tamoxifen on mania, not on bipolar disorder, and its effects on depression are unknown.“Tamoxifen appears to be a promising potential treatment for ...

Lithium Disilicate Restorations Fatigue Testing Parameters: A Systematic Review
ConclusionThe studies reviewed showed a level of heterogeneity, as testing parameters were considered through different setups. The current study demonstrated that various setting of the testing parameters and having a lack of testing standardization has likely led to inconsistency in the reported results. The obvious heterogeneity in the setting of testing variables—especially the magnitude of load and number of cycles applied—made it impractical to run direct comparisons between the reviewed studies. Therefore, specific international standardization of fatigue testing of dental restorations is urgently needed to ensu...

Combined treatment of myo-inositol and d-chiro-inositol (80:1) as a therapeutic approach to restore inositol eumetabolism in patients with bipolar disorder taking lithium and valproic acid
CONCLUSIONS: Considering the iatrogenic depletion of inositols, the tailored ratio 80:1 in favour of myo-ins, may become a safe and effective strategy to counteract side effects, by providing a large amount of myo-ins and an adequate one of d-chiro-ins. The clinical dosage of inositols used as dietary supplementation is 4 grams/daily, and it may allow the recovery of the side effects and improve patients' QoL, without reducing the central therapeutic effect of the pharmacological therapy.PMID:34533796 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202109_26657

Optimized osteogenesis of biological hydroxyapatite-based bone grafting materials by ion doping and osteoimmunomodulation
CONCLUSION: The doping of active inorganic ions is a reliable strategy to endow BHA-based biomaterials with osteoimmunomodulatory property and promote bone regeneration. Further studies are still in need to explore more ions and their effects in the crosstalk between the skeletal and immune systems.PMID:36245367 | DOI:10.3233/BME-221437
