A Deeper Understanding of Metal Nucleation and Growth in Rechargeable Metal Batteries Through Theory and Experiment
Angew Chem Int Ed Engl. 2023 Sep 21:e202309247. doi: 10.1002/anie.202309247. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLithium and sodium metal batteries continue to occupy the forefront of battery research. Their exceptionally high energy density and nominal voltages are highly attractive for cutting-edge energy storage applications. Anode-free metal batteries are also coming into the research spotlight offering improved safety and even higher energy densities than conventional metal batteries. However, uneven metal nucleation and growth which leads to dendrites continues to limit the commercialisation of conventional and anode-free ...

Common changes in rat cortical gene expression after valproate or lithium treatment particularly affect pre- and post-synaptic pathways that regulate four neurotransmitters systems
CONCLUSIONS: Our study suggests that treating with mood stabilisers cause many common changes in levels of RNA which will impact on CNS function, particularly affecting post-synaptic muscarinic receptor functioning and the release of multiple neurotransmitters.PMID:37722808 | DOI:10.1080/15622975.2023.2258972

Tailoring the growth route of lithium peroxide through the rational design of a sodium-doped nickel phosphate catalyst for lithium-oxygen batteries
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Sep 15. doi: 10.1039/d3cc03323f. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTailoring the morphology and structure of Li2O2, the discharge product of lithium-oxygen batteries (LOBs), through the rational design of cathode catalysts is an efficient strategy to promote the electrochemical performance of LOBs. In this work, sodium-doped nickel phosphate nanorods (Na-NiPO NRs) grown on Ni foam (NF) were prepared by the hydrothermal method and subsequent calcination. For the Na-NiPO NRs, the electronic structure could be optimized and abundant void space among the nanorods would provide abundant transport channels. ...

Stabilizing Decavanadate Cluster as Electrode Material in Sodium and Lithium-ion Batteries
This study shows a crystal engineering approach to stabilize the cluster with organic guanidinium (Gdm+) cation through the hydrogen-bonding interactions between the amino groups of the cation and the anion. The comparison of solubility and thermal stability of the Gdm{V10} with another cluster bearing tetrabutylammonium (Tba+) cation reveals the better stability of cation-anion assembly in the former than the latter. As a result, the Gdm{V10} delivers better rate capability and cycling stability than Tba{V10} when tested as anode material in a half-cell configuration of a sodium-ion battery. Finally, the performance of th...

Sulfur-Decorated Ti < sub > 3 < /sub > C < sub > 2 < /sub > T < sub > X < /sub > MXene for High-Performance Sodium/Potassium-Ion Batteries
Chem Asian J. 2023 Aug 9:e202300336. doi: 10.1002/asia.202300336. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAs post-lithium ion batteries, both sodium-ion batteries (SIBs) and potassium ion batteries (PIBs) possess great potential for large scale energy storage. However, the application of both SIBs and PIBs are hindered by the lack of suitable electrode materials. Here, we synthesized the sulfur decorated Ti3 C2 Tx (S-T3 C2 Tx ) MXene as electrode material for SIBs and PIBs. Thanks to the sulfur functional group and the formation of Ti-S bond, which facilitates the sodium in-/desertion and strengthens the potassium ion adsorption abi...
