Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4651: Is Insulin Receptor Substrate4 (IRS4) a Platform Involved in the Activation of Several Oncogenes?
Miguel A. Ortega The IRS (insulin receptor substrate) family of scaffold proteins includes insulin receptor substrate-4 (IRS4), which is expressed only in a few cell lines, including human kidney, brain, liver, and thymus and some cell lines. Its N-terminus carries a phosphotyrosine-binding (PTB) domain and a pleckstrin homology domain (PH), which distinguishes it as a member of this family. In this paper, we collected data about the molecular mechanisms that explain the relevance of IRS4 in the development of cancer and identify IRS4 differences that distinguish it from IRS1 and IRS2. Cardiac Insulin Resistance in Subjects With Metabolic Syndrome Traits and Early Subclinical Atherosclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: Apparently healthy individuals without cardiac 18F-FDG uptake have higher HOMA-IR and higher prevalence of MetS traits, cardiovascular risk factors, and early atherosclerosis. An improvement in cardiometabolic profile is associated with the recovery of myocardial 18F-FDG uptake at follow-up.PMID:37713581 | DOI:10.2337/dc23-0871

The tissue-specific metabolic effects of the PPAR α agonist ciprofibrate in insulin-resistant male individuals: a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled crossover study
CONCLUSIONS: Ciprofibrate treatment increased hepatic lipid accumulation and lowered MRgluc, without affecting whole-body insulin sensitivity. Furthermore, parameters of cardiac function or cardiac energy status were not altered upon ciprofibrate treatment.PMID:37670579 | DOI:10.1002/oby.23874

The Effect of Testosterone Replacement Therapy on Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in Older Hypogonadal Men
CONCLUSIONS: Our study did not show improvement of NAFLD in older hypogonadal men after 12 months of T versus placebo treatment, as assessed by three clinical scores and liver CT for hepatic steatosis. Future studies with longer treatment duration and additional NAFLD diagnostic modalities as primary outcome are warranted.PMID:37656011 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad511

Three-Dimensional Mitochondria Reconstructions of Murine Cardiac Muscle Changes in Size Across Aging
Am J Physiol Heart Circ Physiol. 2023 Aug 25. doi: 10.1152/ajpheart.00202.2023. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWith sparse treatment options, cardiac disease remains a significant cause of death among humans. As a person ages, mitochondria break down and the heart becomes less efficient. Heart failure is linked to many mitochondria-associated processes, including endoplasmic reticulum stress, mitochondrial bioenergetics, insulin signaling, autophagy, and oxidative stress. The roles of key mitochondrial complexes that dictate the ultrastructure, such as the mitochondrial contact site and cristae organizing system (MICOS), in...
