Randomized Phase III Trial of Pemetrexed Versus Docetaxel in Patients With Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Previously Treated With Chemotherapy
CONCLUSION: Treatment with pemetrexed resulted in clinically equivalent efficacy outcomes, but with significantly fewer side effects compared with docetaxel in the second-line treatment of patients with advanced NSCLC and should be considered a standard treatment option for second-line NSCLC when available.PMID:37196429 | DOI:10.1200/JCO.22.02546

1 α,25(OH) < sub > 2 < /sub > D < sub > 3 < /sub > reverses exhaustion and enhances antitumor immunity of human cytotoxic T cells
CONCLUSIONS: Our findings uncover the pleiotropic effects of 1α,25(OH)2D3 in rescuing the exhausted phenotype of human cytotoxic T cells in patients with tumor and in promoting their antitumor immunity.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: ChiCTR2100051135.PMID:35318258 | DOI:10.1136/jitc-2021-003477

Myeloid Derived Suppressor Cells Interactions With Natural Killer Cells and Pro-angiogenic Activities: Roles in Tumor Progression
Conclusions MDSC are major players in the immunosuppressive scenario in cancer, thanks to their phenotype heterogeneity and critical interaction with several innate immune cells, thus representing a crucial target in oncology. Here we reviewed the interactions of MDSCs with NK cells. The contribution of key cytokines, chemokines and mediators active in this process have been discussed. We also described the contribution of MDSC on angiogenesis directly or indirectly through interactions with NK and immunosuppressive activities. A parallel of the cancer associated to the decidual counterpart of these cells is discussed, a...

Vitamins in Pancreatic Cancer: A Review of Underlying Mechanisms and Future Applications
In this study, we performed a PubMed literature search to review the anticancer mechanisms and the preclinical and clinical studies that support the development of the bioactive vitamins A, C, D, E, and K in pancreatic cancer intervention. Preclinical studies have shown promising results for vitamin A in pancreatic cancer prevention, with clinical trials showing intriguing responses in combination with immunotherapy. For vitamin C, preclinical studies have shown slower tumor growth rates and/or increased survival when used alone or in combination with gemcitabine, with clinical trials with this combination revealing decrea...
