PEG hydrogel containing dexamethasone-conjugated hyaluronic acid reduces secondary injury and improves motor function in a rat moderate TBI model
In this study, we evaluated the effect of locally applied PEG-bis-AA/HA-DXM hydrogel on secondary injury and motor function recovery after moderate controlled cortical impact (CCI) TBI. Hydrogel treatment significantly improved motor function evaluated by beam walk and rotarod tests compared to untreated rats over 7 days post-injury (DPI). We also observed that the hydrogel treatment reduced lesion volume, inflammatory response, astrogliosis, apoptosis, and increased neuronal survival compared to untreated rats at 7 DPI. These results suggest that PEG-bis-AA/HA-DXM hydrogels can mitigate secondary injury and promote motor ...

Ursolic acid alleviates steroid-induced avascular necrosis of the femoral head in mouse by inhibiting apoptosis and rescuing osteogenic differentiation
Toxicol Appl Pharmacol. 2023 Aug 1:116649. doi: 10.1016/j.taap.2023.116649. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSteroid-induced avascular necrosis of femoral head (SANFH) is a common disorder worldwide with high disability. Overdose of glucocorticoid (GC) is the most common non-traumatic cause of SANFH. Up until now, there are limited therapeutic strategies for curing SANFH, and the mechanisms underlying SANFH progression remain unclear. Nevertheless, Osteogenic dysfunction is considered to be one of the crucial pathobiological mechanisms in the development of SANFH, which involves mouse bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs...

Intravenous Versus Perineural Dexamethasone for Reducing Rebound Pain After Interscalene Brachial Plexus Block: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSION: Although perineural dexamethasone provided longer postoperative analgesia, intravenous dexamethasone was more beneficial in reducing pain increase after ISB resolution, incidence of rebound pain, and pain-related sleep disturbance.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Clinical Research Information Service Identifier: KCT0006795.PMID:37337808 | PMC:PMC10279515 | DOI:10.3346/jkms.2023.38.e183

Structurally dynamic self-healable hydrogel cooperatively inhibits intestinal inflammation and promotes mucosal repair for enhanced ulcerative colitis treatment
Biomaterials. 2023 May 31;299:122184. doi: 10.1016/j.biomaterials.2023.122184. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHydrogels are a class of biocompatible materials with versatile functions that have been increasing explored for the localized treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC), but various mechanical stimuli may cause premature hydrogel breakage and detachment, impeding their further clinical translation. Here we report a multifunctional mechanically-resilient self-healing hydrogel for effective UC treatment, which is synthesized through the host-guest interaction between dopamine/β-cyclodextrin-modified hyaluronic acid (HA-CD...
