Infrared pulsed fiber laser-produced gold and silver-109 nanoparticles for laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry of steroid hormones
CONCLUSION: The results of the quantitative analysis of steroid hormones using silver-109 and gold nanoparticles prepared with PFL 2D GS LGN for LDI-MS and semiautomatic LDI-MSI are presented. It has been proven that nanoparticles obtained by laser synthesis can be successfully used for the analysis of steroid hormones in a wide range of concentrations.PMID:37706428 | DOI:10.1002/rcm.9621

Giant cell arteritis: An interesting case presentation
CONCLUSION: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the spirochaete Treponema pallidum, which can infect the central nervous system and cause neurosyphilis, which can mimic GCA. As shown in this interesting case study, it is useful to consider syphilis screening in patients with atypical presentations of GCA, as this can help determine correct and timely treatment but also initiate necessary screening of previous partners.PMID:37439491 | DOI:10.1177/14782715231184518

Efficacy and safety of low- versus high-dose glucocorticoid regimens for induction of remission of anti-neutrophil cytoplasm antibody-associated vasculitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Studies with low-dose GC regimens in AAV are associated with fewer infections while obtaining equivalent efficacy.PMID:37339385 | DOI:10.1080/03009742.2023.2211387

Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder myeloradiculopathy
Pract Neurol. 2023 May 5:pn-2023-003696. doi: 10.1136/pn-2023-003696. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 56-year-old woman developed progressive subacute lower limb weakness with sensory and autonomic abnormalities. She had received a living-donor kidney transplantation 21 years before for end-stage chronic kidney disease and took mycophenolate mofetil and prednisolone. MR scan of the spinal cord showed bilateral cauda equina gadolinium enhancement and MR scan of the brain showed enhancing nodular hyperintensities in the internal capsule and globus pallidus. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) showed a pleocytosis with extremely low gl...

Itraconazole Improved Bronchial Wall Thickness in Severe Persistent Asthma: A Double-blind Placebo-controlled Randomized Clinical Trial
Iran J Allergy Asthma Immunol. 2023 Feb 20;22(1):1-11. doi: 10.18502/ijaai.v22i1.12000.ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of 8 months of treatment with itraconazole on airway wall thickness in patients with severe persistent asthma. It was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial (IRCT20091111002695N9). Seventy-five subjects with severe persistent asthma received itraconazole (100 mg), prednisolone (5 mg), or placebo twice a day for eight months in three treatment groups (n=25 in each group). The primary objective was to improve the right upper lobe apical segmental bronchus (...
