Medical adjuvant treatment to increase patency of arteriovenous fistulae and grafts
CONCLUSIONS: The meta-analyses of three studies for ticlopidine (an antiplatelet treatment), which all used the same dose of treatment but with a short follow-up of only one month, suggest ticlopidine may have a beneficial effect as an adjuvant treatment to increase the patency of AVFs and AVGs in the short term. There was insufficient evidence to determine if there was a difference in graft patency between placebo and other treatments such as aspirin, fish oil, clopidogrel, dipyridamole, dipyridamole plus aspirin, warfarin, sulphinpyrazone and GTN patch. The certainty of the evidence was low to moderate due to short follo...

Oral antiplatelet therapy for acute ischaemic stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Antiplatelet therapy with aspirin 160 mg to 300 mg daily, given orally (or by nasogastric tube or per rectum in people who cannot swallow) and started within 48 hours of onset of presumed ischaemic stroke, significantly decreased death and dependency, and reduced the risk of early recurrent ischaemic stroke without a major risk of early haemorrhagic complications; long-term outcomes were improved.PMID:35028933 | DOI:10.1002/14651858.CD000029.pub4

Hemostasis components as therapeutic targets in autoimmune demyelination
In conclusion, targeting platelet activation and receptors for fibrin(ogen) deserve further research to hopefully purpose new drugs in the pharmacologic paraphernalia of MS neurologists.PMID:35064575 | DOI:10.1002/cpt.2532

Antiplatelet Use in Ischemic Stroke
CONCLUSIONS: Although good evidence exists for the use of certain antiplatelet agents postischemic stroke, there are considerable opportunities for future research to investigate personalized therapies. These include screening patients for platelet polymorphisms that confer antiplatelet resistance and for randomized trials including more racially diverse populations.PMID:35094598 | DOI:10.1177/10600280211073009

Meta-analysis of aspirin-guided therapy of colorectal cancer
CONCLUSION: Aspirin can improve the outcome of patients with CRC. PIK3CA mutation status and high expression of PTGS2 are associated with longer survival. However, randomised controlled trials are needed to investigate postdiagnosis aspirin use in CRC patients taking into account cancer stage and gene expression.PMID:35171329 | DOI:10.1007/s00432-022-03942-1

P2Y12 inhibitors plus aspirin for acute treatment and secondary prevention in minor stroke and high-risk transient ischemic attack: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: Early administration of P2Y12 inhibitors plus aspirin in patients with acute non-cardioembolic minor ischemic stroke or TIA reduced the incidence of ischemic stroke recurrence, impacting more significantly than the increased bleeding risk and influencing patients' quality of life by reducing disabling stroke.PMID:35331593 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejim.2022.03.017

Contemporary antiplatelet therapy for secondary stroke prevention: a narrative review of current literature and guidelines
Stroke Vasc Neurol. 2022 Apr 7:svn-2021-001166. doi: 10.1136/svn-2021-001166. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAntiplatelet therapy is one of the mainstays for secondary stroke prevention. This narrative review aimed to highlight the current evidence and recommendations of antiplatelet therapy for stroke prevention. We conducted advanced literature search for antiplatelet therapy. Landmark studies and randomised controlled trials evaluating antiplatelet therapy for secondary stroke prevention are reviewed. Results from Cochrane systematic review, pooled data analysis and meta-analysis are discussed.Single-antiplatelet therapy ...

Comparative efficacy of different types of acupuncture as adjuvant therapy on carotid atherosclerosis: a protocol for systematic review and network meta-analysis
BMJ Open. 2022 Apr 6;12(4):e049778. doi: 10.1136/bmjopen-2021-049778.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Carotid atherosclerosis (CAS) is a disease of the aorta caused by lipid metabolism disorders and local inflammation. Acupuncture combined with traditional western medicine (such as aspirin or atorvastatin) for the treatment of CAS has been widely applied in clinical practice, but there is still a lack of supporting evidence for its efficacy and safety on CAS. Therefore, this systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) will summarise the effects of different types of acupuncture treatments on CAS, and a ranking of the therapeuti...
