Bacterial isolates, antibiogram and outcomes of blood culture proven sepsis in neonates at a tertiary institution in South East Nigeria: a cross-sectional study
CONCLUSION: The most common bacteria isolated causing NNS using BACTEC automated blood culture system was Staphylococcus aureus. The empirical antibiotics considered for use at the study site are gentamycin, VA for Gram-positive organisms and CIP, IPM and MEM for Gram-negative organisms. Some of the participants with positive blood culture died. Therefore, there is a need for regular antibiogram profiles in all hospitals offering neonatal care.PMID:36110504 | PMC:PMC9468700 | DOI:10.1177/20499361221122479

A recurrent prosthetic joint infection caused by < em > Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae < /em > : case report and literature review
J Med Microbiol. 2022 Sep;71(9). doi: 10.1099/jmm.0.001580.ABSTRACTProsthetic knee joint infection caused by Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae is uncommon and only one case of recurrent infection has previously been described. Here, we describe the case of a 77-year-old male patient who was admitted to the teaching hospital of Rennes (France) with bilateral and nocturnal gonalgia evolving for 1 month. He had bilateral knee prosthesis 10 years ago, and a history of large B-cell lymphoma in remission. A diagnosis of infective endocarditis, with prosthetic knee infection, was made, with positive cultures of synovial fluids and blo...

Use of antibiotics in pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis
The objective of our study was to describe the treatment of this condition and to identify the surgical and medical management parameters to propose an effective and consensual postoperative antibiotic therapy protocol. We retrospectively reviewed pyogenic flexor tenosynovitis of the thumb or fingers treated between 01/01/2013 and 01/01/2018 at a teaching hospital. Inclusion criteria were confirmation of the clinical diagnosis intraoperatively and a minimum post-antibiotic follow-up of 6 months. Comorbidities, type of surgery, antibiotic therapy parameters, and treatment outcome were assessed. One hundred and thirteen pati...
