Shift in harms and benefits of cervical cancer screening in the era of HPV screening and vaccination: A modelling study
CONCLUSION: Both harms and benefits of hrHPV screening decrease over the first screening rounds. For younger women the efficiency will decrease, while longer screening intervals lead to increased efficiency in older women. Programme efficiency overall remains stable, this shows the importance of longer intervals for low-risk women.FUNDING: Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment.PMID:35429107 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.17190

Epidemiologic and Genomic Analysis of SARS-CoV-2 Delta Variant Superspreading Event in Nightclub, the Netherlands, June 2021
We report a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 superspreading event in the Netherlands after distancing rules were lifted in nightclubs, despite requiring a negative test or vaccination. This occurrence illustrates the potential for rapid dissemination of variants in largely unvaccinated populations under such conditions. We detected subsequent community transmission of this strain.PMID:35271792 | DOI:10.3201/eid2805.212019

The benefit of vaccination against COVID-19 outweighs the potential risk of myocarditis and pericarditis
Neth Heart J. 2022 Mar 9. doi: 10.1007/s12471-022-01677-9. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVaccines against coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) have shown to be greatly effective in preventing viral spread, serious illness and death from this infectious disease and are therefore critical for the management of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the listing of myocarditis and pericarditis as possible rare side effects of the messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines against COVID-19 by regulatory agencies has sparked discussion on the vaccines' safety. The most important published cohort studies to date demonstrat that myocarditis is a very ...

The Immediate Effect of COVID-19 Vaccination on Anticoagulation Control in Patients Using Vitamin K Antagonists
CONCLUSION: BNT162b2 was associated with an immediate negative effect on anticoagulation control in patients treated with VKAs, so it is advisable to monitor the INR shortly after vaccination, even in stable patients.PMID:35245945 | DOI:10.1055/s-0042-1742628

A Sudden Rise of Patients with Acute Macular Neuroretinopathy during the COVID-19 Pandemic
The aim of this paper is to inform on the surge of cases of acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) – a rare disease characterized by the sudden onset of acute scotomas caused by ischemia of the retinal capillary plexus – during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a sudden rise in patients with AMN was observed in our clinic. In this paper, 4 cases from a hospital in the south of the Netherlands are reported, all of which could directly be linked to a COVID-19 infection or vaccination against the corona virus. A search for similar cases in the PubMed database produced thirteen relevant reports, w...

Health and economic impact of seasonal influenza mass vaccination strategies in European settings: A mathematical modelling and cost-effectiveness analysis
CONCLUSION: Given the direct and indirect protection, and depending on the vaccine prices, model results support a combination of having moved the elderly to an improved vaccine and adopting universal paediatric vaccination programmes across the European settings.PMID:35109968 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2022.01.015
