A Novel Risk Stratification System for Ischemic Stroke in Japanese Patients With Non-Valvular Atrial Fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: The HELT-E2S2score may be useful for identifying Japanese NVAF patients at risk of ischemic stroke.PMID:33762526 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-20-1075

Long-Term Outcome in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke and Heart Failure
CONCLUSIONS: AIS patients with HF were associated with poor functional outcome at the 1-year follow up. Further multicenter studies involving a larger number of patients are warranted to verify these results.PMID:35444111 | DOI:10.1253/circj.CJ-21-0937

Assessment of changes in muscle mass, strength, and quality and activities of daily living in elderly stroke patients
This study included 179 patients. Patients received stroke rehabilitation 7 days a week individually. Muscle strength and quality significantly increased after 4 weeks on both the sides. Muscle mass decreased after 4 weeks; however, there was no significant difference between the two time points. Changes in muscle strength and quality showed a significant correlation with improvement in ADLs [r = 0.66 (male), 0.45 (female) and 0.55 (male), 0.31 (female), respectively]; however, muscle mass showed no correlation with improvement in ADLs. Poststroke rehabilitation improves muscle strength and quality, as well as ADLs. Muscle...

Detailed phenotype of < em > RNF213 < /em > p.R4810K variant identified by the Chinese patients with acute ischaemic stroke or transient ischaemic attack
CONCLUSIONS: The RNF213 p.R4810K variant was associated with LAA, anterior circulation stenosis and ECAS in Chinese patients. Given the low carrying rate and only 1-year follow-up information, caution should be taken to interpret our findings in no statistically significant association between the p.R4810K variant and stroke prognosis in Chinese patients.PMID:37137523 | DOI:10.1136/svn-2022-002276

Impact of financial incentives for inter-provider care coordination on health-care resource utilization among elderly acute stroke patients
ConclusionsOur findings suggest that a payment system for care coordination is inappropriate since it was not associated with a reduction in overall health-care resource utilization. Further, health-care system reform is necessary to improve care continuity across multiple health-care institutions in Japan.

Effects of Cilnidipine, an L/N-Type Calcium Channel Blocker, on Carotid Atherosclerosis in Japanese Post-Stroke Hypertensive Patients: Results from the CA-ATTEND Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Cilnidipine promoted the regression of common carotid IMT in post-stroke hypertensive patients, especially in the thick group. Cilnidipine also reduced the IAD in both normal and thick groups. PMID: 29225324 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Dietary Intake of Energy and Nutrients from Breakfast and Risk of Stroke in The Japanese Population: The Circulatory Risk in Communities Study (CIRCS).
CONCLUSIONS: A higher intake of energy from breakfast, primarily saturated or monounsaturated fat, was associated with a reduced risk of intracerebral hemorrhage in Japanese men. PMID: 29899172 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Associations of Daily Walking Time With Pneumonia Mortality Among Elderly Individuals With or Without a Medical History of Myocardial Infarction or Stroke: Findings From the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study.
CONCLUSIONS: Regular walking for ≥1 hour/day may reduce the risk of pneumonia mortality in elderly individuals with or without cardiovascular disease history. PMID: 30249944 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Body Mass Index and Risks of Incident Ischemic Stroke Subtypes: The Japan Public Health Center-Based Prospective (JPHC) Study.
CONCLUSION: Cumulative average BMI showed a positive linear effect on sub-distribution hazards of lacunar, large-artery occlusive, and cardioembolic strokes in both sexes, except for cardioembolic stroke in women. PMID: 30555115 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Energy Intake at Admission for Improving Activities of Daily Living and Nutritional Status among Convalescent Stroke Patients.
Authors: Nishiyama A, Wakabayashi H, Nishioka S, Nagano A, Momosaki R Abstract Our aim was to clarify the nutritional status and energy intake needed for activities of daily living (ADL) improvement among convalescent stroke patients. This retrospective cohort study of stroke patients used data from the Japan Rehabilitation Nutrition Database. Mean energy intake per ideal body weight was 26 kcal/kg/day at 1 week after hospitalization. Patients were divided into two groups according to energy intake: ≥26 kcal/kg/day (high) and <26 kcal/kg/day (low). ADL was evaluated using Functional Independence Measure (FIM),...
