In light of recently published clinical trials and their implication for clinical practice, does a large catchment area acute hospital require 24  hour CT neck and head angiography and/or neuro-interventional services in the setting of acute ischaemic stroke?
ConclusionUHL should provide routine CT angiography to all patients presenting with acute ischaemic stroke in line with current guidelines. The need for provision of neuro-interventional services on-site proved more difficult to assess and requires further analysis.

Survey of Image Quality in Irish Stroke CT Protocols
Non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) of the brain is a critical tool in the investigation of suspected acute ischaemic stroke. The recognition of subtle differences in attenuation values between normal brain parenchyma and regions of ischaemic tissue may be crucial to accurate and timely diagnosis. Radiologists at MMUH have been concerned with inconsistencies in image quality received from the various scanners and hospitals. Our study aimed to investigate the variation in imaging protocols for suspected acute stroke at different institutions in the regional hospital network using an objective measure of low contrast detectability (LCD).

Functional MRI of Letter Cancellation Task Performance in Older Adults
Conclusion The present work is the first to identify neural correlates of the LCT using fMRI and tablet technology in a healthy aging population. Across all ages, the activation was found to be bilateral, including in the cerebellum, superior temporal lobe, precentral gyrus, frontal gyrus, and various occipital and parietal areas. 57 The Workload Distribution and Response Times of FAST Scans in a Level 3 Hospital in Ireland
ConclusionStroke CT will continue to increase the out of hours work load for CT departments across the country especially with our ageing population. It is vital that services, particularly in level 3 stroke centres, are adequately equipped in terms of staffing to meet the highest standard of care in the management of acute stroke.
