Apolipoproteins B and A1 in Ischemic Stroke Subtypes
Introduction: Elevated serum apolipoprotein B and the apolipoprotein B/A1 ratio have been associated with ischemic stroke and intracranial atherosclerotic disease. We sought to assess the relationship between serum levels of apolipoprotein B, apolipoprotein A1, and the apolipoprotein B/A1 ratio with ischemic stroke subtypes and large artery atherosclerosis location. Materials and Methods: We evaluated serum apolipoprotein B and apolipoprotein A1 levels in consecutive, statin-na ïve, adult ischemic stroke patients admitted to an academic medical center in southern India.

Stroke in cardiac sarcoidosis: Need to worry?
CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic stroke in patients with CS can be attributed to a cardioembolic phenomenon. A high index of clinical suspicion is needed for early diagnosis and management of these patients. PMID: 33189209 [PubMed - in process]

Risk factors, vascular lesion distribution, outcome and recurrence of strokes due to intracranial atherosclerosis: One year data from Hyderabad stroke registry
Conclusion: Risk factors, distribution of vascular lesions and high recurrence of stroke due to ICAS in this study is similar to that reported from other Asian countries. Aggressive medical management and risk factor control remains the best strategy for preventing recurrence.

The Benefits and Risks of Statin Therapy in Ischemic Stroke: A Review of the Literature
Wang Zhao, Zhi-Jie Xiao, Shui-Ping ZhaoNeurology India 2019 67(4):983-992 Statins are effective cholesterol-lowering drugs for reducing the risks of mortality and morbidity of cardiovascular diseases. Increasing evidence has shown that statin use is associated with a significant beneficial effect in patients with ischemic stroke. Both pre-stroke and post-stroke statin use has been found to be beneficial in ischemic stroke. Furthermore, good adherence is associated with a better clinical outcome, and statin withdrawal is associated with a poor functional outcome in patients with ischemic stroke. High-intensity statin thera...

Management of Dyslipidaemia for the Prevention of Stroke: Clinical Practice Recommendations from the Lipid Association of India
Curr Vasc Pharmacol. 2021 Nov 9. doi: 10.2174/1570161119666211109122231. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTStroke is the second most common cause of death worldwide. The rates of stroke are increasing in less affluent countries predominantly because of a high prevalence of modifiable risk factors. The Lipid Association of India (LAI) has provided a risk stratification algorithm for patients with ischaemic stroke and recommended low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) goals for those in a very high risk group and extreme risk group (category A) of <50 mg/dl (1.3 mmol/l) while the LDL-C goal for extreme risk group (catego...

The risk of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage after thrombolysis for acute stroke: Current concepts and perspectives
Conclusions: In addition to the already known risk factors considered in the standard protocols, an individualized evaluation of risks is needed to minimize the risk of brain hemorrhage after thrombolysis for ischemic stroke.
