Vertebrobasilar Artery Calcification as a Risk Factor for the Development of Stroke: Case-Control Study From a Tertiary Care Center, Southern India
Conclusion The presence of higher grades of calcifications in the vertebrobasilar arteries is a major risk factor for stroke. Hence, its presence in asymptomatic individuals needs to be taken as a warning sign for the development of stroke.PMID:37605701 | PMC:PMC10440145 | DOI:10.7759/cureus.42196

"Does left atrial appendage morphology and dimension differ amongst etiological stroke subtypes in patients without known Atrial Fibrillation? Results from the Left Atrial Appendage morphology and dimension assessment by TEE in patients with stroke without known Atrial Fibrillation (LAMDA-STROKE) Study."
CONCLUSION: Complex LAA morphology is a predominant feature in ischemic stroke patients with ESUS and may contribute to an increased risk of stroke in these patients.PMID:36894122 | DOI:10.1016/j.ihj.2023.03.001

Stroke in cardiac sarcoidosis: Need to worry?
CONCLUSIONS: Ischemic stroke in patients with CS can be attributed to a cardioembolic phenomenon. A high index of clinical suspicion is needed for early diagnosis and management of these patients. PMID: 33189209 [PubMed - in process]

Risk factors predisposing to acute stroke in India: a prospective study
Conclusion: The foremost risk factors for stroke in India, hypertension and diabetes, need to be controlled and treated like other global high-risk populations for stroke prevention. The NIHSS scores highlight the relationship between risk factors and stroke severity.

Effect of Amlodipine in Stroke and Myocardial infarction: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
ConclusionIn the pooled analysis of data from 12 randomised controlled trials and one double-blinded cohort study measuring the effect of CCBs, we found that the CCB amlodipine reduced the risk of stroke and MI in hypertensive patients. Superior results for amlodipine were found in ten of the 13 studies included in this meta-analysis.

Propensity of Stroke in Standard versus Various Aortic Arch Variants: A 200 Patients Study
CONCLUSIONS: Standard aortic arch Type 2, bovine aortic arch Type A, and Type B are associated with an early age at stroke presentation. During routine carotid evaluation by CT or MR angiography in stroke patients, it would be better to evaluate the aortic arch as well, especially in young patients.PMID:36211155 | PMC:PMC9540953 | DOI:10.4103/aian.aian_710_21

An MRI Based Ischemic Stroke Classification - A Mechanism Oriented Approach
Ann Indian Acad Neurol. 2022 Nov-Dec;25(6):1019-1028. doi: 10.4103/aian.aian_365_22. Epub 2022 Nov 17.ABSTRACTOxfordshire Community Stroke Project and Trial of Org 10172 in acute stroke treatment are the commonly used ischemic stroke classification systems at present. However, they underutilize the newer imaging technologies. Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) of the brain can detect the site and extent of infarcts accurately. From the MRI patterns, the mechanisms of ischemic stroke can be inferred. We propose to classify ischemic infarcts into the following types based on their DW-MRI appearance: corti...
