‘Quality of life at 90 days after stroke and its correlation to activities of daily living’: A prospective cohort study
The main goal of stroke rehabilitation is to improve the health-related quality of life (HRQoL). In developed countries, several studies evaluating the HRQoL among stroke survivors have been conducted. In India, HRQoL related to stroke as an important health care issue has not received sufficient attention. The study was conducted to encourage the professionals to use stroke-specific HRQoL scales in clinical practice as one of the measures of stroke outcome.

Age- and Sex-Associated Impacts of Body Mass Index on Stroke Type Risk: A 27-Year Prospective Cohort Study in a Low-Income Population in China
Conclusions Being overweight increased the risk of both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes; obesity was only associated with an increased risk of IS. Additionally, the positive association between BMI and stroke risk was only observed in participants aged <65 years and the associations differed between men and women. Being overweight increased the risk of both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes in men and being underweight increased their risk of hemorrhagic stroke. In women, being overweight increased the hemorrhagic stroke risk, whereas obesity increased their IS risks. The high prevalence of hypertension and elevat...

Early post-stroke seizures in a sample of Egyptian patients with first-ever stroke
Conclusion: The incidence of early post-stroke seizures was high in our study and was positively associated with a poor functional outcome, a higher in-hospital mortality rate and a longer duration of in-hospital stay. The most important risk factors were ICH, the cortical site of involvement and a large size of the lesion.

The influence of initial stroke severity on mortality, overall functional outcome and in-hospital placement at 90 days following acute ischemic stroke: A tertiary hospital stroke register study
Conclusions: In this acute stroke cohort, initial stroke severity had a major impact on the likelihood of death following an AIS and appears to be the dominant influence on the overall stroke outcome and in-hospital placement.

Association Between Stroke Characteristics and Post-Stroke Fatigue: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Our meta-analysis indicated that PSF was closely relevant to stroke type and had no significant relationship with stroke location. However, the findings should be interpreted cautiously. Thus, we suggest an updated meta-analysis on this subject when more comprehensive studies that explore the above issue are available.

Study Protocol: IMPETUS: Implementing a uniform stroke care pathway in medical colleges of India: IMPETUS Stroke
We present here a protocol to investigate the feasibility and fidelity of implementing a uniform stroke care pathway in medical colleges of India. Methods and Analysis: This is a multicentric, prospective, multiphase, mixed-method, quasi-experimental implementation study intended to examine the changes in a select set of stroke care-related indicators over time within the sites exposed to the same implementation strategy. We shall conduct process evaluation of the implementation process as well as evaluate the effect of the implementation strategy using the interrupted time series design. During implementation phase, educa...

Intracranial atherosclerosis is the most common stroke subtype: Ten-year data from hyderabad stroke registry (India)
Conclusions: The study reveals a distinct pattern of ischemic stroke subtypes in the Indian context that has overlapping features of registries from West and East Asian countries. Both large artery and small vessel diseases are substantially represented with a predominance of intracranial atherosclerosis. The study results have significant implications for developing preventive and management strategies for stroke care and research in India.

Frequency and Predictors of Early Seizures Following First Acute Stroke: Data from a University Hospital in South India
Conclusions: The frequency of early onset post-stroke seizures is 11.8%, with most of them occurring within 24 hours. Venous stroke, large lesion, cortical location, supratentorial location, hypercoaguable states, and hyperhomocysteinemia are independent predictors. Duration of hospital stay is increased in patients with early seizures, however, they did not influence the in-hospital mortality.

PON1 (Paraoxonase 1) Q192R gene polymorphism in ischemic stroke among North Indian population
Conclusion: PON1 Q192R gene polymorphism is not associated with an increased risk of acute ischemic stroke in the North Indian population. Further studies with a larger sample size are needed before PON1 Q192R gene polymorphism can be considered as a genetic risk factor for ischemic stroke.
