Between information campaign and controversy: a quantitative newspaper content analysis about COVID-19 vaccination in Switzerland and Austria
CONCLUSIONS: The commercialized and comparatively high share of tabloid news coverage in Austria may have contributed to oversimplified and polarizing COVID-19 vaccine debates in this context. Insufficiently balanced and adequate information may contribute to a loss of public trust in vaccination and may therefore affect vaccination uptake. Authorities and public health professionals should consider this effect when designing information campaigns.PMID:37646484 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231195388

Recommendations for the healthcare of patients with FOP
Orthopadie (Heidelb). 2023 Aug 21. doi: 10.1007/s00132-023-04425-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) is a very rare, severe genetic disorder triggered by a gain-of-function mutation in the ACVR1 gene that codes for the type I bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) receptor ACVR1 (activin A receptor-type 1), also known as ALK2 (activin receptor-like kinase-2). It leads to the onset and progression of heterotopic ossification (HO) in soft and connective tissue. HO is often preceded by episodes of soft tissue swelling or flare-ups. Flare-ups, characteristic of FOP, may be induced...

Vaccine hesitancy comes in waves: Longitudinal evidence on willingness to vaccinate against COVID-19 from seven European countries
CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: This study revealed the dynamic nature of COVID-19 vaccine intentions and its predictors in 7 European countries. The findings provide insights to policymakers for designing more effective communication strategies, particularly targeted at hesitant and unwilling to vaccinate population groups, to increase vaccine uptake for future public health emergencies.PMID:37460356 | DOI:10.1016/j.vaccine.2023.07.017

A complex intervention on vaccination uptake among older adults ( ≥ 60 years) in Germany - a study protocol with a mixed methods design
In this study, a complex intervention to improve vaccination rates in GP practices for the vaccinations recommended for people aged 60 years and older will be implemented and evaluated. Additionally, improvements in patients' vaccine-related health literacy and knowledge, and patients' intention to get vaccinated are expected. The mixed methods design can deliver results that can be used to improve preventive health care for elderly people and to gain more knowledge on vaccination uptake and the intervention's effectiveness.TRIAL REGISTRATION: Trial registration number: DRKS00027252 (retrospectively registered).PMID:374522...

COVID-19 vaccination status, sources of used information and socio-demographic characteristics-results of the CoSiD study
DISCUSSION: Information offerings for specific target groups must take social inequalities even more into account. One challenge here is that the use of different information sources is related to different vaccination intentions. In particular, people with vaccination intentions and the undecided can be reached with easily understandable, trustworthy information offerings.PMID:37438645 | DOI:10.1007/s00103-023-03736-x
