Transfer effects on spoken sentence comprehension and functional communication after working memory training in stroke aphasia
Publication date: Available online 10 February 2018Source: Journal of NeurolinguisticsAuthor(s): Lilla Zakariás, Christos Salis, Isabell WartenburgerAbstractRecent treatment protocols have been successful in improving working memory (WM) in individuals with aphasia. However, the evidence to date is small and the extent to which improvements in trained tasks of WM transfer to untrained memory tasks, spoken sentence comprehension, and functional communication is yet poorly understood. To address these issues, we conducted a multiple baseline study with three German-speaking individuals with chronic post-stroke aphasia. Part...

InspireMD touts results of ‘one-size-fits-all’ stroke-prevention study
InspireMD’s CGuard embolic prevention stent A clinical trial of  InspireMD’s (NYSE:NSPR) CGuard embolic prevention stent showed that it successfully treated patients whose carotid arteries varied in size, according to the company. The investigator-initiated trial in Germany used a 10 mm diameter CGuard stent with SmartFit technology across a broad range of carotid artery diameters. Variations in diameters of the common carotid artery (CCA) and the internal carotid artery (ICA), as well as inaccurate x-ray images caused by projection angles, make choosing the correct size choice of a carotid stent challenging, a...

Clinical Diversity of Cerebral Sinovenous Thrombosis and Arterial Ischaemic Stroke in the Neonate: A Surveillance Study
Conclusion: The risk for AIS is about 3 times higher than that for CSVT in neonates. A higher proportion of critically ill infants in CSVT and a later onset of symptoms may indicate that perinatal and postnatal risk factors are more important for CSVT than for AIS. The data underline the need for an increased awareness of CSVT in critically ill infants.Neonatology

Incidence Estimates of Perinatal Arterial Ischemic Stroke in Preterm- and Term-Born Infants: A National Capture-Recapture Calculation Corrected Surveillance Study
Conclusion: PAIS incidence rates in Germany, extrapolated from estimates for completeness of reporting in the largest federal state, were within the range of other population-based studies. As a novel finding, we detected symptomatic PAIS in preterm-born infants to be as common as in term-born infants although their symptoms were often unspecific.Neonatology
