Distribution of fungemia agents in five years and antifungal resistance
CONCLUSIONS: In brief, antifungal resistance is more likely to restrict therapeutic options, albeit it is, fortunately, not prevalent in Turkey despite a few recent reports. Yet, a robust detection or management of antifungal resistance requires species-level identification and strict compliance with relevant management guidelines. Besides, challenges in research may be compensated with a national data set built with data from local laboratories.PMID:37667920 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202308_33395

Drug dispensation at both community and hospital pharmacy the highly active antiretrovirals example
CONCLUSION: This study presents a complete inventory of the dual delivery system for antiretroviral therapies. Hospital and community therefore remain complementary to welcome outptients who will seek different delivery methods there. Little known to patients and professionals, this dual delivery system generates complexities at the stages of prescription, dispensing and reimbursement. It only concerns a minority of patients and its benefit for health insurance seems uncertain.PMID:37567558 | DOI:10.1016/j.pharma.2023.08.001

Uncovering the expression of circPVT1 in the extracellular vesicles of acute myeloid leukemia patients
In this study, we characterized EVs from acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients in terms of size, concentrations, surface markers and circPVT1 cargo. We showed that circPVT1 is overexpressed by primary blast cells from newly-diagnosed AML patients compared with hematopoietic stem-progenitor cells and is released as cell-free RNA in the plasma. We isolated EVs from the plasma of AML patients and healthy subjects by size exclusion chromatography and characterized them by nanoparticle tracking analysis. EVs from patients' plasma are larger compared with those from healthy subjects and their surface profile is characterized by ...

The search for better treatment strategies for mansonellosis: An expert perspective
Expert Opin Pharmacother. 2023 Jul 21. doi: 10.1080/14656566.2023.2240235. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Four species of the Mansonella genus infect millions of people across sub-Saharan Africa and Central and South America. Most infections are asymptomatic, but mansonellosis can be associated with unspecific clinical manifestations such as fever, headache, arthralgia, and ocular lesions (M. ozzardi); pruritus, arthralgia, abdominal pain, angioedema, skin rash, and fatigue (M. perstans and perhaps Mansonella sp 'DEUX'); and pruritic dermatitis and chronic lymphadenitis (M. perstans).AREAS COVERED: We searched...
