"Baby-led weaning" - Progress in infant feeding or risky trend?
Arch Pediatr. 2022 Sep 12:S0929-693X(22)00182-8. doi: 10.1016/j.arcped.2022.08.012. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBaby-led weaning (BLW), proposed as a new form of complementary feeding, has emerged as a real trend phenomenon in the media. Infants are seated at the family table from the age of 6 months, facing the foods they grab and bring to their mouth: they decide which foods they want to eat and what amount. The consumption of mashed foods and the use of a spoon are totally discouraged. BLW is increasingly used in nurseries and centers of young children. A bibliographic search carried out between 2000 and 2021 found 42...

Prenatal Exposure to Nonpersistent Endocrine Disruptors and Behavior in Boys at 3 and 5 Years
Conclusions: The observed associations between BPA, MnBP, and behavior in boys are consistent with previous findings. Further health impact assessment studies based on dose–response functions corrected for exposure misclassification are required to quantify the public health burden possibly entailed by such associations. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1314 Received: 02 November 2016 Revised: 23 May 2017 Accepted: 19 June 2017 Published: 15 September 2017 Address correspondence to C. The effect of early feeding practices on growth indices and obesity at preschool children from four European countries and UK schoolchildren and adolescents
Conclusion: Early feeding practices, i.e., any breastfeeding duration and age of introduction of complementary foods, do not appear to be consistently associated with heightz-score, overweight/obesity, and body fat mass in preschool children from four European countries and in UK schoolchildren and adolescents. What is known?•Healthy growth and childhood obesity partly originate from early life. What is new?•Breastfeeding duration less than 6  months was associated with lower height z-scores in 5-year-old French children, while the opposite was observed in 4-year-old British children.•Introduction of complementary foo...

Pollutants in Breast Milk: A Public Health Perspective – A Commentary of the Nutrition Committee of the French Society of Pediatrics
Pregnant and lactating women are continuously and ubiquitously exposed to numerous environmental pollutants from various sources including air, food, water, and occupational and household environments. The available evidence shows that pollutants are present in human milk and one of the emerging questions is what happens when the nursing infant is involuntarily exposed to contaminants through breastfeeding. The available literature does not currently provide a conclusive evidence of any consistent or clinically relevant health consequences in infants exposed to environment chemicals through breast milk. The available da...

Ingestion of titanium dioxide nanoparticles: a definite health risk for consumers and their progeny
Arch Toxicol. 2022 Jul 27. doi: 10.1007/s00204-022-03334-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTTitanium dioxide (TiO2) is one of the most commonly used nanomaterials in the world. Additive E171, which is used in the food industry, contains a nanometric particle fraction of TiO2. Oral exposure of humans to these nanoparticles (NPs) is intensive, leading to the question of their impact on health. Daily oral intake by rats of amounts of E171 that are relevant to human intake has been associated with an increased risk of chronic intestinal inflammation and carcinogenesis. Due to their food preferences, children are very exposed to ...

Japan-France-US comparison of infant weaning from mother's viewpoint.
Conclusion: Weaning is a significant framework to interpret cultural differences in mother-infant relationship. The perceived insufficiency is interpreted as a solution of conflict between the social pressure to breastfeed and its burden. PMID: 22745518 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
