Immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced neurotoxicity is not associated with seroprevalence of neurotropic infections
CONCLUSION: Previous viral, bacterial and protozoal neurotropic infections appear not to be associated with the development of neurological irAEs in melanoma patients who underwent therapy with ICI across 3 countries. Further efforts are needed to unravel the factors underlying neurological irAEs in order to identify risk factors for these toxicities, especially with the increasing use of ICI in earlier stage disease.PMID:37606856 | DOI:10.1007/s00262-023-03498-0

Direct and crowding-out effects of a Hepatitis B vaccination campaign
Econ Hum Biol. 2023 Jul 23;51:101279. doi: 10.1016/j.ehb.2023.101279. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTWe evaluate the direct and spillover causal effects of a Hepatitis B (HB) vaccination campaign in French schools on the vaccination adherence of the targeted pupils. Using a regression discontinuity design, we show that this campaign created an exogenous shock on vaccination behavior, increasing the HB vaccination rate for children aged 11 and above. At the same time, we show a drop in the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccination rate of the targeted pupils and an increase in the parental belief that measles is a benign...

Profile of patients with a positive HCV viral load in a large French psychiatric hospital (2019-2021): A case-control study
J Viral Hepat. 2023 Jul 23. doi: 10.1111/jvh.13875. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHepatitis C virus (HCV) is highly prevalent in people with mental disorders (PWMDs). However, in the international context of HCV elimination, no previous study has explored the features of seropositive PWMDs with vs. without a positive viral load (VL). We retrospectively retrieved all HCV serology results of patients hospitalized in 2019, 2020 and 2021 in the second-largest psychiatric hospital of France. Using the medical records of all patients found seropositive for HCV, the following data were collected: sex (male, female), age (in years...

Fulminant echovirus 11 hepatitis in male non-identical twins in northern Italy, April 2023
Euro Surveill. 2023 Jun;28(24). doi: 10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.24.2300289.ABSTRACTEchovirus 11 (E11) has recently been associated with a series of nine neonatal cases of severe hepatitis in France. Here, we present severe hepatitis caused by E11 in a pair of twins. In one of the neonates, the clinical picture evolved to fulminant hepatitis. The E11 genome showed 99% nucleotide identity with E11 strains reported in the cases in France. Rapid genome characterisation using next generation sequencing is essential to identify new and more pathogenetic variants.PMID:37318763 | DOI:10.2807/1560-7917.ES.2023.28.24.2300289

Unknown Circovirus in Immunosuppressed Patient with Hepatitis, France, 2022
We report the discovery, by means of routine shotgun metagenomics, of a new virus belonging to the family Circoviridae, genus Circovirus, in a patient in France who had acute hepatitis of unknown origin.PMID:37081594 | DOI:10.3201/eid2905.221485

Longitudinal analysis of annual national hemovigilance data to assess pathogen reduced platelet transfusion trends during conversion to routine universal clinical use and 7-day storage
DISCUSSION: Longitudinal HV analysis demonstrated stable PC utilization trends with reduced patient risk during conversion to universal 7-day amotosalen/UVA PCs.PMID:36802055 | DOI:10.1111/trf.17285
