Effect of prior anticoagulation therapy on stroke severity and in-hospital outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke and atrial fibrillation
We aimed to assess the prevalence of prior anticoagulation therapy (warfarin or non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants [NOACs]) among patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and atrial fibrillation (AF) in China and investigate the associations between prior anticoagulation therapy and initial stroke severity and in-hospital outcomes.

Rationale and design of a prospective study evaluating population pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of rivaroxaban in Chinese patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation
Introduction Rivaroxaban is one of the most commonly used non-vitamin K antagonists for stroke prevention in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Different individual exposures exist for Asian and non-Asian populations, and dose selection is different for Japanese and non-Japanese subjects. Few studies have investigated the pharmacokinetics (PK) and pharmacodynamics (PD) of rivaroxaban in Chinese patients and provided a solid reference for dose selection and individualised therapy. Methods and analysis This is a single-centre prospective study. Rivaroxaban-treated Chinese NVAF patients will be recruited ...

Analysis of Influencing Factors of Compliance with Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulant in Patients with Nonvalvular Atrial Fibrillation and Correlation with the Severity of Ischemic Stroke
In this study, a total of 156 patients with NVAF who received NOAC anticoagulation therapy in our hospital from January 2018 to January 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The results showed that education background, place of residence, number of complications, CHA2DS2-VASc score, and HAS-BLED score were independent influencing factors for NOACS compliance of NVAF patients. Also, the Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was a negative correlation (r = -0.465, P < 0.001) between NOAC compliance and severity of ischemic stroke in patients with NVAF. Therefore, clinical supervision and management of patients wit...

Mitochondrial A3243G mutation causes mitochondrial encephalomyopathy in a Chinese patient: Case report
Rationale: Mitochondrial mutations are associated with a wide spectrum of clinical abnormalities. More than half of these mutations are distributed in the 22 mitochondrial tRNA genes, including tRNALeu(UUR). In particular, the A3243G mutation in the tRNALeu(UUR) gene causes mitochondrial encephalomyopathy. Patient concerns: A 12-year-old boy was admitted to Shaoxing People's Hospital because there is a reduction in the volume of speech, dysphonia, unable to write, recognize words, and unable to wear clothes, accompanied by unstable walking after treatment of unexplained fever and somnolence. Diagnoses: The proband ...

Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D deficiency predicts poor outcome among acute ischemic stroke patients without hypertension
Publication date: Available online 3 May 2018Source: Neurochemistry InternationalAuthor(s): Bingjun Zhang, Yuge Wang, Yi Zhong, Siyuan Liao, Zhengqi LuAbstract25-Hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) deficiency is a frequent condition in patients who suffer acute ischemic stroke (AIS), and several studies suggested that it may be associated with a poorer prognosis. Whether this association is affected by hypertension is unclear. Our aim was to investigate the association between 25(OH)D levels and both clinical severity and outcome after 3 months in AIS patients stratified by the history of hypertension. Consecutive first-ever AIS pa...
