The Use of Simulation-Based Education With New Graduate Nurses in Emergency Department and Acute Care Settings: A Scoping Review
Conclusion The literature is scant on the use of simulation in critical care areas with novice graduate nurses. Additional inquiry is needed related to the role of learners, cost, timing, setting, and educational practices. More studies with stronger research designs and valid and reliable measurement instruments are also needed. Finally, there is a need to better understand the effects of simulation on novice nurse graduates' knowledge and skills as well as patient outcomes. Navigate Transition to Value-Based Care, Payment Models With ACR 2016 Quality and Safety Sessions
Washington, DC  — ACR 2016® quality and safety sessions help radiology professionals enhance and strengthen their practices, providing specific strategies and tools to improve patient care and transition from volume- to value-based payment models. “ACR 2016 quality and safety sessions focus on topics that patients care about, such as radiation dose optimization and methods to increase patient satisfaction,” said Cheri Canon, MD, FACR, chair of the ACR 2016 Program Committee. “Radiology professionals must adapt to new alternative payment models, and ACR 2016 sessions help attendees navigat...

Developing and evaluating a course programme to enhance existential communication with cancer patients in general practice.
CONCLUSIONS: A one-day VT/CME course targeting GPs and including the main elements of knowledge building, self-reflection and communication training showed to make participants more confident about their ability to communicate with patients about existential issues and concerns. Key points Patients with cancer often desire to discuss existential concerns as part of clinical care but general practitioners (GPs) lack confidence when discussing existential issues in daily practice. In order to lessen barriers and enhance existential communication in general practice, we developed a one-day course programme. Attending the cour...

The aggressive peripheral T‐cell lymphomas: 2013
BackgroundT‐cell lymphomas make up approximately 10–15% of lymphoid malignancies. The frequency of these lymphomas varies geographically, with the highest incidence in parts of Asia. DiagnosisThe diagnosis of aggressive peripheral T‐cell lymphoma (PTCL) is usually made using the WHO classification. The ability of hematopathologists to reproducibly diagnosis aggressive PTCL is lower than for aggressive B‐cell lymphomas, with a range of 72–97% for the aggressive PTCLs. Risk StratificationPatients with aggressive PTCL are staged using the Ann Arbor Classification. Although somewhat controversial, PET scans appear to...

Hodgkin lymphoma: 2014 update on diagnosis, risk‐stratification, and management
Disease overview: Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) is an uncommon B‐cell lymphoid malignancy affecting 9,200 new patients annually and representing approximately 11.5% of all lymphomas in the United States. Diagnosis: HL is composed of two distinct disease entities; the more commonly diagnosed classical HL and the rare nodular lymphocyte‐predominant HL. Nodular sclerosis, mixed cellularity, lymphocyte depletion, and lymphocyte‐rich HL are subgroups under the designation of classical HL. Risk stratification: An accurate assessment of the stage of disease in patients with HL is critical for the selection of the appropriate therap...

Clinical routine use of dopamine transporter imaging in 516 consecutive patients
Abstract [123I]-FP-CIT is a single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) ligand showing in vivo the loss of dopaminergic terminals in the brain and is now available in the market. Despite several systematic studies in clinically inconclusive cases, the use of such imaging in clinical routine is scarcely reported. We analyzed 516 files of subjects with movement disorders who were consecutively examined using [123I]-FP-CIT scan and determined whether the use of imaging was appropriate and if it improved clinical diagnosis or care of the patient. In addition, we determined if appropriate use was related to subs...

HP DesignJet Printing Technology Helps New Jersey Search and Rescue Save Lives
New Jersey Search and Rescue (NJSAR), a team of more than 50 highly trained volunteers who conduct an average of 25 missing-person searches per year, installed an HP DesignJet T2500 Multifunction Printer (MFP) to produce large-format maps to aid in search-and-rescue missions. On call 24 hours a day, seven days a week and 365 days a year, NJSAR provides New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania with incident management, mountain rescue, ground search, medical, and K-9 search-and-rescue services. Helping NJSAR remain on the forefront of search-and rescue-strategy, the HP DesignJet T2500 MFP scans, prints and copies 36-inch maps...

The impact of African-trained neurosurgeons on sub-Saharan Africa.
CONCLUSIONS: Neurosurgery availability in SSA has significantly improved over the past decade thanks to the dedication of senior African neurosurgeons, organizations, and volunteers who believed in forming the new neurosurgery generation in the same continent where they practice. Challenges include limited resources and the need to continue expanding efforts in local neurosurgery training and continuing medical education. Focus on affordable and low-maintenance technology is needed. PMID: 32114560 [PubMed - in process]
