Knowledge, awareness, and vaccination compliance of hepatitis B among medical students in Riyadh's governmental universities
CONCLUSION: Overall, most of the participants had poor HBV knowledge and vaccine compliance. Therefore, we recommend the implementation of pre-clinical vaccine checking and the addition of an infectious disease awareness and prevention program.PMID:34017775 | PMC:PMC8132782 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1419_20

Prevalence and Susceptibility to Hepatitis B virus and the Need for Community Health Education in Milwaukee ’s Hmong Community
This study sought to estimate the prevalence of HBV infection and assess the need for community HBV education within Milwaukee County’s Hmong.MethodsBetween 3/2013 and 12/2019, 287 Hmong participants were screened for HBV and 271 were provided targeted HBV education to evaluate its impact on HBV knowledge.ResultsAmong participants screened, 178 (62%) were immune; 77 (27%) susceptible; 27 (9%) positive; and 5 (2%) in a “gray zone.” Targeted health education showed statistically significant improvement in HBV knowledge.DiscussionWith 38% lacking immunity to HBV and 9% with active infection, there remains a significant ...

Hepatitis A and hepatitis B infection prevalence and associated risk factors in men who have sex with men, Bangkok, 2006–2008
Abstract Despite the availability of safe and effective vaccines, little is known about prevalence and risk factors for hepatitis A (HAV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection among Thai men who have sex with men. The prevalence of HAV and HBV infection among men who have sex with men cohort in Bangkok was assessed. Baseline blood specimens were drawn and demographic and behavioral data were collected. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to analyze risk factors for prevalent HAV and HBV infection. One thousand two hundred ninety‐nine Thai men who have sex with men 18 years and older were enro...

Knowledge and prevalence of viral hepatitis among beauticians
In conclusion, a high prevalence of HAV infection and a low prevalence of HBV and HCV infection were observed among beauticians. In addition, most of these individuals were not immune to HBV, indicating the need for vaccination campaigns targeting these professionals. Most of these professionals were well informed regarding viral hepatitis, although there was a gap in knowledge regarding disinfection and sterilization procedures. Public health prevention strategies should be adopted to improve education about disinfection/sterilization procedures for manicures and pedicures. J. Med. Hepatitis A virus age‐specific sero‐prevalence and risk factors among Jordanian children
This study provided strong evidence for continuous transition of HAV epidemiology towards intermediate endemicity in Jordan, with more susceptible adolescents and adults. Following the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations for countries with intermediate endemicity, large‐scale hepatitis A vaccination is recommended for children in Jordan. This is strengthened by the availability of effective and safe HAV vaccines, improving the socio‐economic status of the Jordanians, and increasing life expectancy among Jordanians. J. Med. Hepatitis prevention project in the Korean American community in Killeen, Texas.
Abstract Educational efforts related to viral hepatitis have the potential to increase awareness and identify chronically infected individuals and can lead to successful vaccination strategies. However, in underserved semirural communities, such as the Korean American community in Killeen, Texas, these outreach activities are lacking. The GanYum ("hepatitis" in Korean) Prevention Project aimed to evaluate thoughts/behaviors, assess vulnerability, and educate Korean Americans on hepatitis B and C. Two outreach events were held at a Korean church and a Korean market (O'Mart) to provide education, screening, and outr...

Hepatitis B and human immunodeficiency virus co-infection among pregnant women in resource-limited high endemic setting, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: implications for prevention and control measures
Conclusions We observed a relatively higher seroprevalence of HBV infection among pregnant women in the study area, in which majority of the cases had underlying risk factors for acquiring the infection. Since none of the mothers were vaccinated for HBV, the possibility of perinatal transmission is inevitable. Hence, routine screening and immunization against HBV during pregnancy and health education are highly warranted to alleviate the situation.

Seroepidemiology of hepatitis A and B and vaccination status in staff at German schools for the handicapped
This study aims to assess serostatus and vaccination status of hepatitis A and B among staff at schools for the handicapped. We also wanted to investigate factors associated with serostatus, number of infections with hepatitis A/hepatitis B at work and factors influencing being vaccinated or not. The cross‐sectional study was carried out between August 2010 and August 2012 at 13 German schools for severely handicapped. Data were analyzed using blood samples, vaccination documents and questionnaires. 395 persons participated in our study (response: 59.7%), information on 367 could be used for analysis. Two respondents hav...

National trends of hepatitis B and C during pregnancy across sociodemographic, behavioral, and clinical factors, United States, 1998 –2011
ConclusionsWe observed an increasing national trend in the prevalence of hepatitis among pregnant women, particularly among already high‐risk groups. This underscores the need for coordinated approaches—encompassing culturally‐appropriate health education/risk‐reduction programs, and increased vaccination and screening efforts—championed by health providers. High prevalence of syphilis, HBV, and HCV co ‐infection, and low rate of effective vaccination against hepatitis B in HIV‐infected patients in West China hospital
To investigate the epidemiological features and risk factors of HBV, HCV, and syphilis infection among HIV‐infected patients in West China Hospital. A retrospective study was conducted with HIV‐infected patients from 2014 to 2016 in West China hospital, SCU. Serum makers for HBV, HCV, and syphilis were detected. Among 894 HIV‐infected patients, the prevalence of HIV/HBV, HIV/HCV, HIV/syphilis co‐infections was 14.4%, 5.7%, and 18.9% respectively. HIV/HBV/HCV, HIV/HCV/syphilis, and HIV/HBV/syphilis triple co‐infection was 7 (0.7%), 12(1.3%), 29(3.2%) respectively. The rate of effective vaccination against HBV was ...

The knowledge and high seroprevalence of hepatitis A in a high-risk group (agricultural reproductive-aged women) in the southeastern region of Turkey
Conclusion: Turkey is considered to have high endemicity and female farm workers are considered a high-risk group for hepatitis A. This high HAV exposure might be reduced with vaccination, as well as improvements in sanitation, living conditions, health care utilization, safer drinking water, and health education. Hepatitis C: A South African literature review and results from a burden of disease study among a cohort of drug-using men who have sex with men in Cape Town, South Africa.
CONCLUSION: We demonstrated a high burden of HCV exposure or infection among a small urban cohort of MSM who inject drugs. We recommend active screening of MSM (especially those who report drug use) for HCV, and the development of referral networks for access to treatment. PMID: 29262967 [PubMed - in process]
