Quantitative analysis of the level of readability of online emergency radiology-based patient education resources
ConclusionsThe majority of websites with emergency radiology-related patient education materials are not adhering to the NIH and AMA ’s recommended reading levels, and it is likely that the average reader is not benefiting fully from these information outlets. With the link between health literacy and poor health outcomes, it is important to address the online content in this area of radiology, allowing for patient to more full y benefit from their online searches.

Timely identification of atypical acute aortic dissection in the emergency department:a study from a tertiary hospital
Conclusions: For patients in the emergency department who are suspected of having AAD, incorporating atypical symptoms with high levels of D-dimer into a triage strategy could improve the efficiency of clinical decision making. Furthermore, essential education directed towards the recognition of the atypical symptoms of AAD for front-line physicians may aid in a timely diagnosis, as compared with the usual assessments in the emergency department. Balloon angioplasty, with and without stenting, versus medical therapy for hypertensive patients with renal artery stenosis.
CONCLUSIONS: The available data are insufficient to conclude that revascularisation in the form of balloon angioplasty, with or without stenting, is superior to medical therapy for the treatment of atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis in patients with hypertension. However, balloon angioplasty results in a small improvement in diastolic blood pressure and a small reduction in antihypertensive drug requirements. Balloon angioplasty appears safe and results in similar numbers of cardiovascular and renal adverse events to medical therapy. PMID: 25478936 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

False-Positive Stress Echocardiograms: A Continuing Challenge.
CONCLUSION: The evidence is insufficient to state that a false-positive stress echocardiography in the absence of obstructive coronary artery disease portends a poor outcome, but considerable evidence shows that some of these patients have microvascular abnormalities and endothelial dysfunction and consequently may benefit from aggressive medical management and further testing. Effectiveness of revascularization interventions compared with medical therapy in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy: A systematic review protocol
Conclusion:To our knowledge, this systematic review will be the first to evaluate existing research on the effectiveness of revascularization interventions compared with medical therapy in patients with ischemic cardiomyopathy. The review will benefit patients, healthcare providers, and policymakers. Background: Cardiomyopathies is a group of heart diseases that directly affects the heart muscle, and their causes is not just high blood pressure, congenital and pericardial diseases but ischemic cardiomyopathy disease are also caused by vascular disorders, and to confirm the diagnosis, angiography is required. There are ...

Journal update monthly top five
This month’s update is by the team from the Emergency Medicine Research group in Cambridge. We used a multimodal search strategy, drawing on free open-access medical education resources and literature searches. We identified the five most interesting and relevant papers (decided by consensus) and highlight the main findings, key limitations and clinical bottom line for each paper. The papers are ranked as: Worth a peek: interesting, but not yet ready for prime time. Head turner: new concepts. Game changer: this paper could/should change practice. Early CT coronary angiography in patients with suspected acute coronary...

Why Doctors Are Using Snapchat Glasses in Operating Rooms
Shafi Ahmed dons a pair of digital sunglasses and explains how the tiny lenses built into its black plastic frame, which can capture high-resolution images, are transforming how doctors get trained in operating rooms. The British colorectal surgeon used Snap Inc.’s high-tech spectacles a year ago to walk rookie physicians and millions of curious viewers through a hernia operation using the Snapchat photo-sharing app. In 2018, he plans to beam his avatar into operating rooms with so-called immersive technology, which spans everything from military training to adult entertainment, and promises to support the next gener...

Acute Myocardial Infarction Caused by Coronary Spasm and Dissection Treated with Medical Therapy.
We report the case of a 33-year-old woman with no history of coronary risk factors or chest pain who experienced intermittent chest pain at rest for several minutes from 2 PM. At 8 AM the next day, chest pain recurred and persisted for about 1 hour. She was transported to our hospital by ambulance, where electrocardiogram showed ST-elevation in the precordial leads, and blood tests showed elevation of cardiac markers. She was diagnosed with ST-elevation myocardial infarction. Because she was a young woman without any risk factors, coronary spastic angina was suspected. Coronary angiography without intracoronary nitrate adm...

E-104 The complexity of online patient education materials about interventional neuroradiology procedures published by major academic institutions
ConclusionCurrent patient education materials related to neurointerventional procedures are not written at or below the NIH’s recommended 4th- to 6th-grade education level. Given the complexity, of those procedures significant attention should be pointed towards an improvement in the available online materials.Disclosures A. Aslan: None.

Hypertension management in primary care: study protocol for a cluster randomized controlled trial
DiscussionThe study will determine the effectiveness of our practice redesign intervention on hypertension control. The intervention addresses general practitioners and practice assistants, while aiming at benefits on the patient level. Therefore, the cluster design is used to evaluate the effects.Trial registrationDRKS00006315 (date of registration: 14 July 2014).

Intracranial and extracranial multiple arterial dissecting aneurysms in rheumatoid arthritis: A case report.
CONCLUSION: Considering that RA-induced vasculitis can be a potential risk of vascular complications including multiple arterial dissections, physicians should carefully perform endovascular interventional procedures for patients with long-term RA. PMID: 33076745 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Investigation of medical intervention with fatal outcome: the impact of post-mortem CT and CT angiography
Abstract Post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) has been proven for its appropriateness to become an integral part of routine pre-autoptic forensic investigations either in the field of forensic investigation of fatal medical error or in hospital quality management. The autoptic investigation of unexpected and peri-interventional deaths can be usefully guided by post-mortem imaging which offers significant added value in the documentation of misplacement of medical devices before dissection with the risk of artificial relocation and the detection of iatrogenic air embolism. Post-mortem CT angiography (PMCTA) augme...
