Effects of strength training to patients undergoing dialysis: a systematic review.
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that it may be difficult to increase muscle mass with strength training in patients who are undergoing haemodialysis. Muscle growth may be impaired as a result of several catabolic conditions. Strength training was associated with important clinical outcomes including increased muscle strength and improved self-rated physical health and function. PMID: 30573007 [PubMed - in process]

Ethylene glycol intoxication following brake fluid ingestion complicated with unilateral facial nerve palsy: a case report
ConclusionEven without a clear history of poisoning, the presence of a high anion, high osmolar gap metabolic acidosis should prompt one to search for ethylene glycol ingestion. Uncommon manifestations like cranial neuropathies need to be examined and considered. Timely aggressive treatment leads to a better prognosis.

Integrating Advance Care Planning as part of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment for hospitalised frail elderly patients: findings of a cross-sectional study.
CONCLUSION: The feasibility and utility of integrating ACP as part of CGA has been demonstrated. Poorer functional status is significantly associated with successful ACP discussion. Greater public education of end-of-life care choices (besides CPR) and follow-up of decliners are recommended. PMID: 31423542 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Management and outcomes of hepatorenal syndrome at an urban academic medical center: a retrospective study
This study is aimed to evaluate the management of acute kidney injury (AKI) in our inner city, American hospital. We intended to ascertain whether or not there is prompt recognition of AKI in cirrhosis according to International Club of Ascites and acute kidney injury network criteria as well how effective we are at distinguishing among different causes of AKI. We aimed to calculated the mortality of hepatorenal syndrome (HRS) in our hospital, and to evaluate the adequacy of the established treatment of AKI at each stage of its algorithm. Patients and methods ICD diagnostic codes were used to identify patients with live...

Ascending aorta replacement vs. total aortic arch replacement in the treatment of acute type A dissection: a meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that AR is associated with a lower early mortality rate and shorter operative times overall. Nevertheless, the incidence of postoperative complications in patients undergoing AR is comparable to that of patients undergoing TR. Further prospective follow-up data needs to be collected and analyzed to discern whether there are statistically significant differences in the risks of re-operation and long-term mortality between AR and TR procedures. Effect of music intervention during hemodialysis: a comprehensive meta-analysis
Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci. 2021 May;25(10):3822-3834. doi: 10.26355/eurrev_202105_25950.ABSTRACTAggravating disease and the accompanying increase in the frequency of hemodialysis interventions worsen the quality of life of patients leading to poor physical and psychological outcomes. Music-based interventions have been suggested to improve both the physical and psychological prognoses for patients undergoing hemodialysis. Two meta-analyses on the impact of music-based interventions on anxiety in patients undergoing hemodialysis failed to evaluate the impact of these interventions on other physiological outcomes. Therefore,...
