Issues Leading to the Recent Outbreaks of Hepatitis A
Since 1996, the incidence of hepatitis A (HAV) had been on the decline due to the development and use of the HAV vaccine. However, recent global outbreaks are occurring among men who have sex with men, illicit drug users, and the homeless. Much of the older population has not been vaccinated, and because of their age, they are more susceptible to complications from this virus. The medical community is challenged with preventing further outbreaks of this infection by promoting pre- and post-exposure immunization, implementing supportive care for those affected by HAV, and providing patient education that will decrease the s...

Medical students' knowledge on vaccinology.
Conclusions: Education plays an important role in shaping the attitudes and responsible behaviour of future physicians. They need to acquire reliable knowledge to persuade their patients as practitioners to use the most effective means of primary prevention of infectious diseases. A change of attitude is needed to stop the route of infection through vaccination, to protect not only their own health but also that of their environment and thus of their patients. Egypt’s Poor Easy Victims of Quack Medicine
Many pharmacies and herbalists in Egypt prescribe their own 'wasfa' (secret drug or herbal elixir). Credit: Cam McGrath/IPSBy Cam McGrathCAIRO, Aug 10 2014 (IPS) Magda Ibrahim first learnt that she had endometrial cancer when she went to a clinic to diagnose recurring bladder pain and an abnormal menstrual discharge. Unable to afford the recommended hospital treatment, the uninsured 53-year-old widow turned to what she hoped would be a quicker and cheaper therapy. A local Muslim sheikh claimed religious incantations, and a suitable donation to his pocket, could cure the cancer. But when her symptoms persisted, Ibrahim cons...

HPV vaccine acceptability among men: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Public health campaigns that promote positive HPV vaccine attitudes and awareness about HPV risk in men, and interventions to promote healthcare provider recommendation of HPV vaccination for boys and mitigate obstacles due to cost and logistical barriers may support HPV vaccine acceptability for men. Future investigations employing rigorous designs, including intervention studies, are needed to support effective HPV vaccine promotion among men.

Inappropriate use of serological tests for hepatitis B virus in Evliya Celebi Education and Research Hospital of Dumlupinar University, Kütahya.
In conclusion, it is suggested that test requests should be restricted by using screening algorithms and in-service training should be provided, tests required by secretary or nurse should be stopped and previous test results should be conveyed to the clinicians actively through HIMS in order to prevent unnecessary test requests causing economic and workforce loss in HBV infection serology. These measures can provide early and true diagnosis for the patients and also will reduce the economic loss. PMID: 25492657 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE]

Trends in the prevalence of hepatitis B infection among women giving birth in New South Wales.
CONCLUSION: Among women giving birth, there was a significant reduction in HBV prevalence in Indigenous women associated with the introduction of the HBV vaccination program in NSW, although prevalence remains higher than among non-Indigenous Australian-born women, and it also varies by region of residence. Continuing evaluation is needed to ensure that the prevalence of HBV infections continues to fall in Australia. PMID: 28403761 [PubMed - in process]
