Preauricular sulcus: Radiological incidence in the female gender in a multicultural population
ConclusionThis study supports the previous notion that the presence of preauricular sulcus in a pelvic specimen would indicate the female gender. The absence of the sulcus does not necessarily confer the male gender.

On the Importance of Domain Awareness in Classifier Interpretations in Medical Imaging
Translating the success of deep learning-based computer-assisted classification into clinical adaptation hinges on the ability to explain a prediction’s causality. Post-hoc interpretability approaches, especially counterfactual techniques, have shown both technical and psychological potential. Nevertheless, currently dominant approaches utilize heuristic, unvalidated methodology. Thereby, they potentially operate the underlying networks outside their validated domain, adding doubt in the predictor’s abilities instead of generating knowledge and trust. In this work, we investigate this out-of-distribution prob...

Who'd work with kids?
Clare is a senior lecturer in Medical Imaging, but her prior clinical role was in the field of paediatric interventional radiology. When Clare started her radiography career she never wanted to work with children. This narrative explains why working in this specialized field turned out to be so rewarding.

Effects of Continuing Education Incentives on Clinical Instructors.
CONCLUSION: Clinical instructors who are willing to teach are the most desirable to students. Further evaluation of CE credit as an extrinsic motivating factor for clinical instructorship is important for providing the best positive learning environment for students. The role of continuing education in improving the quality of chest radiography images based on experiences in three Asian countries
This article summarises our experiences in improving the quality of chest radiography (CXR) images in resource-constrained settings in Asia. CXR is the most commonly used examination for initial diagnosis of pulmonary diseases, including respiratory infection with tuberculosis (TB). The role of CXR in TB diagnosis has become increasingly important; unfortunately, even the most basic X-ray equipment is scarcely available in many developing countries, and/or the quality of CXR images is often unacceptable for diagnosing TB patients. The quality of CXR images mainly depends on the skills of the radiological technologists (RTs...

Challenges to student transition in allied health undergraduate education in the Australian rural and remote context: a synthesis of barriers and enablers.
CONCLUSIONS: Clear and accessible pathways to allied health training for students from rural and remote communities are pivotal to a stronger representation of this cohort among graduates. Similarly, greater representation of rural and remote clinical placements for allied health undergraduate students is an important facilitator. Despite regional coordination and strategies designed to promote a broader range of placement opportunities, the problems remain. This review has consequences for policy and program development for growth of the rural allied health workforce in Australia, as well as identifying knowledge deficits...

Radiology for anatomy educators: Success of an online, 2 ‐day course for radiology training
AbstractIncorporation of radiology training into anatomy education from community college to health professional schools is becoming increasingly popular. However, anatomy educators generally lack training in common radiology modalities, including X-ray, CT, MRI, and ultrasound. Professional development or continuing education courses provide current and new educators the chance to gain new skills within a short timeframe. Here, a 2-day, online course for anatomy educators was created. The goals of which were for the participants: to gain basic knowledge of different radiology modalities, recognize normal radiographic imag...

Can simulation-based education or other education interventions replace clinical placement in medical radiation sciences? A narrative review
In response to increasing student enrolment and workload pressures from the Covid-19 pandemic, a recent focus on health student preparation programs has been on curricula adaptations and replacement of clinical placement time with alternative education activities. The aim of the narrative review was to explore the current evidence relating to education activities in Medical Radiation Sciences (MRS) used to replace clinical placements or part of clinical placements. Medline, CINAHL and Web of Science databases were used to search for articles published between 2017 and 2022.

Podiatric medicine and disaster response: a survey of the professional leadership.
Conclusions: These findings suggest that deliberations regarding academic competencies at the podiatric medical school level and continuing education should be conducted by the profession for a surge response role, including prevention, response, mitigation, and recovery activities. After coordination and integration with response agencies, podiatric medicine has a role in strengthening the nation's catastrophic event surge response. PMID: 23328859 [PubMed - in process]

IJERPH, Vol. 17, Pages 3269: Digital Undergraduate Education in Dentistry: A Systematic Review
Joda The aim of this systematic review was to investigate current penetration and educational quality enhancements from digitalization in the dental curriculum. Using a modified PICO strategy, the literature was searched using PubMed supplemented with a manual search to identify English-language articles published between 1994 and 2020 that reported the use of digital techniques in dental education. A total of 211 articles were identified by electronic search, of which 55 articles were selected for inclusion and supplemented with 27 additional publications retrieved by manual search, resulting in 82 studies that we...

A think-aloud study to inform the design of radiograph interpretation practice
AbstractModels for diagnostic reasoning in radiology have been based on the observed behaviors of experienced radiologists but have not directly focused on the thought processes of novices as they improve their accuracy of image interpretation. By collecting think-aloud verbal reports, the current study was designed to investigate differences in specific thought processes between medical students (novices) as they learn and radiologists (experts), so that we can better design future instructional environments. Seven medical students and four physicians with radiology training were asked to interpret and diagnose pediatric ...
