Results of surgical therapy of functioning pituitary adenomas
CONCLUSION: Surgical therapy in the presented cohort led to the normalisation of hormonal excessive production in 58.6% of cases. A combination of drug therapy and radiotherapeutic methods was necessary in the remaining cases to achieve hormonal remission.PMID:37737300 | DOI:10.5507/bp.2023.037

Single-cell and bulk sequencing analyses reveal the immune suppressive role of PTPN6 in glioblastoma
Aging (Albany NY). 2023 Sep 21;15. doi: 10.18632/aging.205052. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGlioblastoma (GBM) is a highly malignant brain cancer with a poor prognosis despite standard treatments. This investigation aimed to explore the feasibility of PTPN6 to combat GBM with immunotherapy. Our study employed a comprehensive analysis of publicly available datasets and functional experiments to assess PTPN6 gene expression, prognostic value, and related immune characteristics in glioma. We evaluated the influence of PTPN6 expression on CD8+ T cell exhaustion, immune suppression, and tumor growth in human GBM samples and mo...

The oncogenic miR-429 promotes triple-negative breast cancer progression by degrading DLC1
In conclusion, our findings reveal the mechanism of tumorigenic miR-429 in TNBC, which paves the way for target therapies translation in clinical settings.PMID:37737712 | DOI:10.18632/aging.205051

Prognosis and immunoinfiltration analysis of angiogene-related genes in grade 4 diffuse gliomas
Aging (Albany NY). 2023 Sep 21;15. doi: 10.18632/aging.205054. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAlthough angiogenesis critically influences the progression of solid tumors, its contribution to highly malignant, grade 4 diffuse gliomas remains unclear. After analyzing 506 angiogenesis-related genes differentially expressed in grade 4 diffuse gliomas via LASSO and univariate and multivariate COX regression analyses, we constructed a nomogram based on COL22A1, IGFBP2, and MPO that accurately predicted patient survival. The nomogram's performance was validated in an external patient cohort, and a risk score based on the formula C...

A novel risk model of three gefitinib-related genes FBP1, SBK1 and AURKA is related to the immune microenvironment and is predicting prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma patients
CONCLUSION: FBP1, SBK1, and AURKA are prognostic risk factors, and the risk model and nomogram of FBP1, SBK1 and AURKA are associated with dismal prognosis and immune cell infiltration, and have huge prospects for application in evaluating the prognosis in LUAD.PMID:37737707 | DOI:10.18632/aging.205040

Evaluation of primary health care by users during the COVID-19 pandemic: A cross-sectional study
by Suely Deysny de Matos Celino, Nailton Jos é Brandão de Albuquerque Filho, Monalisa da Nóbrega Cesarino Gomes, Gabriela Maria Cavalcanti Costa, Ana Elza Oliveira de Mendonça ObjectiveTo evaluate the primary health care (PHC) attributes and associated factors during the COVID-19 pandemic using the perspective of users. MethodsThis cross-sectional, quantitative study included 422 PHC users from 96 Family Health Teams in a city in Brazil. The assessment used the Primary Care Assessment Tool (PCATool) and a structured questionnaire on the sociodemographic and epidemiological characteristics of users and basic health unit...

Factors that influence safe water drinking practices among older persons in slums of Kampala: Analyzing disparities in boiling water
ConclusionBasing on our findings, we find that older women are more likely to use safe drinking water practice (boiling) compared to the male older persons. Health education majorly targeting older men about the importance and health benefits associated with safe water drinking practices should be prioritized by policy makers. There is need to improve housing conditions of older persons to minimize typhoid, diarrhea and other health risks associated with drinking unsafely managed water.

Internet search analysis on the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis: What do people ask and read online?
ConclusionsThe questions were most frequently related to the timeline of treatment and clinical course. Physicians should provide such information to patients with RA in the counseling and education materials.

Identification of gene polymorphisms associated with fat mass by genome-wide association study in Chinese people
CONCLUSIONS: The results suggest that the RASAL1 gene and the PALLD gene might contribute to variability of trunk FM in healthy Chinese Han people. The PTPRS gene is potentially correlated with leg FM. Our findings provide a clue in fat metabolism.PMID:37732072 | PMC:PMC10507778 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/170851

Flow cytometric characterization of cell surface markers to differentiate between fibroblasts and mesenchymal stem cells of different origin
CONCLUSIONS: The results of our study indicate that cell surface markers may prove to be a useful tool in the discrimination between MSCs of different origins and fibroblasts, and thus may be used to authenticate the identity of the isolated cells.PMID:37732070 | PMC:PMC10507789 | DOI:10.5114/aoms/131088

The diagnostic value of circulating miR-532-5p in patients with asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis and its predictive significance for the occurrence of cerebral ischaemic events
CONCLUSIONS: The study suggests the potential clinical value of miR-532-5p for the early diagnosis of asymptomatic CAS patients. MiR-532-5p might have predictive value for the risk of future CIE in asymptomatic CAS patients.PMID:37732069 | PMC:PMC10507762 | DOI:10.5114/aoms.2020.96627

A comparison of 7 commercial anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody immunoassays
CONCLUSIONS: The results obtained in this study provide evidence for high overall concordance between the comparative CLIA method and different LFIAs. This could justify the use of LFIAs in some settings, where automated assays are not available, provided that some limitations are considered.PMID:37732068 | PMC:PMC10507786 | DOI:10.5114/aoms.2020.98361
