Effect of refined management on the recovery of patients undergoing sinusitis surgery via nasal endoscopy
CONCLUSION: Refined nursing can effectively alleviate pain, improve patients' satisfaction of nursing, and also significantly improve patient's depression and anxiety in endoscopic sinus surgery.PMID:36777834 | PMC:PMC9908483

Diagnosis, prognosticators, and management of acute invasive fungal rhinosinusitis: multidisciplinary consensus statement and Evidence ‐Based review with recommendations
ConclusionBased on the currently available evidence, judicious utilization of a combination of history and physical examination, laboratory and histopathologic techniques, and endoscopy provide the cornerstone for accurate diagnosis of AIFS. In addition, AIFS is optimally managed by a multidisciplinary team via a combination of surgery (including resection whenever possible), antifungal therapy, and correcting sources of immunosuppression. Higher quality (i.e., prospective) studies are needed to better define the roles of each modality and determine diagnosis and treatment algorithms. This article is protected by copyright. Association between Staphylococcal Enterotoxin (SE)-specific IgE and specific IgE for house dust mites (HDM) in Brazilian patients with Chronic Rhinosinusitis with Nasal Polyps (CRSwNP).
SE are a group of superantigens formerly associated with several respiratory diseases, including asthma, rhinitis and CRSwNP. Superantigens trigger the production of high specific IgE levels and are usually related to high levels of total IgE (tIgE) and eosinophilic inflammation. We aim to evaluate the correlation between the positivity of SE-specific IgE for A; B; C; TSST-1; tIgE and specific IgE for D. pteronyssinus (DP); D. farinae (DF) and B. tropicalis (BT) in CRSwNP Brazilian patients.36 CSRwNP patients, defined by 2012-EPOS (European Position Paper on Rhinosinusitis) criteria, submitted to nasal endoscopy and CT...

Can Patient-Reported Outcomes and Inflammatory Markers define Endotype 2 in Chronic Rhinosinusitis without Nasal Polyps?
CONCLUSION: The type of inflammation does not impact on the symptoms, the CT scan nor the postoperative results in CRSsNP in contrast to former findings in CRSwNP.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: Project No. B6702020000097.PMID:36442791 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2022.11.020

Likelihood of diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis via endoscopy in dysphagia during the covid-19 pandemic
In this study, we sought to investigate whether the COVID-19 pandemic influenced the likelihood of EGD for diagnosis of EoE in patients with dysphagia.

Comprehensive management of paranasal sinus fungus balls: A Young ‐IFOS consensus statement
ConclusionUntil further data are available, these points provide a framework for the management of PSFB. Moreover, PSFB should be considered a noninvasive mycosis that is not necessarily symptomatic or related to odontogenic conditions. Although diagnosis may be incidental, endoscopy and single imaging (computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging, with distinctive features) are required for diagnosis, whereas contrast medium would allow for differential diagnosis. Although treatment of PSFB should be considered mandatory before sinus augmentation and is recommended for symptomatic patients, immunosuppressed patients,...

Periostin: Only a tissue biomarker in eosinophilic esophagitis assessment?
We read with great interest the article by Muir et  al1 in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology. By using the Esophageal String Test (EST), Muir et al1 highlight the key role of endoluminal periostin (POSTN) in tissue remodeling and fibrosis development in eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). POSTN detection through EST seems to be a valuable alternative to invasive endoscopy; nevertheless, routinely adopting EST in the clinical care setting remains challenging.

Turbinate surgery: which rhinitis are most at risk
CONCLUSION: Most of the patients undergoing turbinate surgery actually have complex forms of rhinitis. The non-allergic component of ORs often causes therapeutic failure. NARESMAs overlapping ARs are at most risk of undergoing turbinate surgery. Correctly framing a rhino-allergological patient is essential in order to guarantee the most adequate treatment. Hence the importance of introducing in clinical practice investigations, including allergy tests and nasal cytology.PMID:36043980 | DOI:10.23750/abm.v93i4.12200
