Endonasal Exposure of Lateral Recess of the Sphenoid Sinus: Significance of Pterygoid Process Pneumatization
CONCLUSION: Pneumatization of the LRSS toward a caudal or superolateral direction may develop independent from each other. Caudal pneumatization of the pterygoid process seems to variably impact the endonasal exposure of the LRSS.PMID:36373591 | DOI:10.1177/19458924221139019

Concha Bullosa: A Shield against Allergens?
Conclusions: Although an enlarged, pneumatized turbinate could function as a physical barrier to inhalant allergens, documented allergies demonstrate no association with CB formation. Furthermore, this study finds no correlation between CB and radiographic evidence of CRS.ORL 2015;77:281-286

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease in Neonates and Infants : When and How to Treat.
Abstract Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) is defined as the involuntary retrograde passage of gastric contents into the esophagus with or without regurgitation or vomiting. It is a frequently experienced physiologic condition occurring several times a day, mostly postprandial and causes no symptoms. These infants are also called 'happy spitters'. GER disease (GERD) occurs when reflux of the gastric contents causes symptoms that affect the quality of life or pathologic complications, such as failure to thrive, feeding or sleeping problems, chronic respiratory disorders, esophagitis, hematemesis, apnea, and apparent li...

Vitamin D Deficiency Rickets in an Adolescent With Severe Atopic Dermatitis
We report the case of a 14-year-old girl with severe AD and fish allergy since early childhood. She lived at high latitude (with less sun exposure) and, because of her atopic disorders, avoided sunlight and fish. Laboratory studies showed elevated alkaline phosphatase and parathyroid hormone levels and low serum calcium; her serum 25OHD level was <12 nmol/L. A radiograph of the wrist showed a radiolucent band in the distal metaphysis of the radius with marginal sclerosis. She was diagnosed as having hypocalcemic rickets due to VD deficiency. Treatment with VD increased her 25OHD level to 44 nmol/L, with normalization of...

Clinical Practice Guideline (Update): Adult Sinusitis
Objective This update of a 2007 guideline from the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery Foundation provides evidence-based recommendations to manage adult rhinosinusitis, defined as symptomatic inflammation of the paranasal sinuses and nasal cavity. Changes from the prior guideline include a consumer added to the update group, evidence from 42 new systematic reviews, enhanced information on patient education and counseling, a new algorithm to clarify action statement relationships, expanded opportunities for watchful waiting (without antibiotic therapy) as initial therapy of acute bacterial rhinos...

Allergic Colitis With Pneumatosis Intestinalis in an Infant
We report this case of cow’s milk protein allergy, managed successfully with elimination of dietary antigen, to highlight the unusual finding of pneumatosis intestinalis on abdominal x-ray, a radiographic hallmark associated with necrotizing enterocolitis. Detailed patient’s history, clinical presentation, and physical examinations are discussed for cow’s milk protein allergy and necrotizing enterocolitis.

Evaluating joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis: is it necessary to radiograph both hands and feet?
Conclusion Performing x-rays of both hands and feet yields additive information compared with imaging only a part of these.

MRI versus conventional measures of disease activity and structural damage in evaluating treatment efficacy in juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Conclusion Only ACRp90 responders showed a significant decrease in synovitis and the halting of structural damage, suggesting that levels of response higher than ACRp30 are more appropriate for assessing drug efficacy. The excellent responsiveness of MRI and its ability to detect subclinical synovitis make it a promising outcome measure.

Microscopic gut inflammation in axial spondyloarthritis: a multiparametric predictive model
Conclusions The prevalence of microscopic gut inflammation in SpA remains unaltered over time. Younger age (shorter symptom duration), progressive disease, male sex and higher disease activity are independently associated with microscopic gut inflammation in axial SpA.

EULAR definition of erosive disease in light of the 2010 ACR/EULAR rheumatoid arthritis classification criteria
The aim of this report was to propose a definition for erosive disease in the context of inflammatory arthritis in light of the 2010 American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) rheumatoid arthritis (RA) criteria for use in clinical practice and studies. A EULAR task force was formed including 16 rheumatologists and one rheumatology fellow. The process was both evidence based and consensus based, and included, between March 2010 and April 2012, analyses of data from two cohorts, two face-to-face meetings, one online voting and one teleconference. The Leiden Early Arthritis Cohort and th...

Defining erosive disease typical of RA in the light of the ACR/EULAR 2010 criteria for rheumatoid arthritis; results of the data driven phase
Conclusions RA-specific erosiveness can be defined with high specificity at several cut-offs for the number of erosive joints in two independent cohorts with multiple different outcomes. The final radiological criterion will be established in the next phase.

Investigating the genetic association between ERAP1 and spondyloarthritis
Conclusions This is the first study to show an association between several polymorphisms located in ERAP1 and SpA as a whole. Our findings demonstrate consistent association of the same SNPs and haplotypes with both AS and non-AS subtypes of SpA.
