Improvement in asthma control and airway inflammation during a period of electronic monitoring
Conclusion: Despite monitoring most participants had sub-optimal adherence, not detected by MARS scores. Improvements in FENO, FEV1 and mPAQLQ likely reflect increased adherence during monitoring.

Biomarkers of obesity associated with severe atopic asthma
Obesity is an independent risk factor for severe asthma, predominantly linked to non-eosinofilic, less IgE-mediated endotype. We aimed to estimate the relationship between obesity, inflammatory biomarkers and immunological features of atopic state in 57 obese female patients with severe atopic asthma (BA), compared to 23 allergic rhinitis (AR) and 25 controls.Spontaneous production of TNF-α, IL-4 and IL-17 by PBMCs and serum leptine were detected by ELISA. IgG4-Abs and IgE-autoAbs to lung keratin, collagen III and elastin, that previously showed association with asthma, were also measured by ELISA.Obesity (BMI >30 ...

Asthma phenotypes and IgE responses
The discovery of IgE represented a major breakthrough in allergy and asthma research, whereas the clinical interest given to IgE in asthma has been blurred until the arrival of anti-IgE biotherapy. Novel facets of the complex link between IgE and asthma have been highlighted by the effect of this treatment and by basic research. In parallel, asthma phenotyping recently evolved to the concept of endotypes, relying on identified/suspected pathobiological mechanisms to phenotype patients, but has not yet clearly positioned IgE among biomarkers of asthma. In this review, we first summarise recent knowledge about the regulation...

Successful Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty with Gadolinium Contrast Media for a Patient with Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension and Iodine Allergy
Publication date: Available online 8 February 2016 Source:Respiratory Medicine Case Reports Author(s): Tomohisa Nakamura, Takeshi Ogo, Akihiro Tsuji, Shigefumi Fukui, Tetsuya Fukuda, Nobuhiro Tahara, Yoshihiro Fukumoto, Satoshi Yasuda, Hisao Ogawa, Norifumi Nakanishi A 28-year-old male was referred to our hospital with dyspnea. He was diagnosed as having chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, and a pulmonary endarterectomy (PEA) was performed. However, exertional dyspnea remained because of residual pulmonary hypertension; therefore, the patient was re-admitted to our hospital 1 year after PEA. We perfo...

The immune-modulatory effects of a mixed herbal formula on dendritic cells and CD4(+) T lymphocytes in the treatment of dust mite allergy asthma and perennial allergic rhinitis.
CONCLUSION: Our mixed herbal formula attenuated the allergic reaction by modifying the physiologic function of the DC-CD4(+) T cell interaction. Further investigations are necessary to understand the mechanism of immune modification mediated by the mixed herbal formula. PMID: 26796636 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Fertility outcomes in asthma: a clinical study of 245 women with unexplained infertility
Evidence is increasing of an association between asthma and aspects of female reproduction. However, current knowledge is limited and furthermore relies on questionnaire studies or small populations. In a prospective observational cohort study to investigate whether time to pregnancy, the number of fertility treatments, and the number of successful pregnancies differ significantly between women with unexplained infertility with and without asthma. 245 women with unexplained infertility (aged 23–45 years) underwent questionnaires and asthma and allergy testing while undergoing fertility treatment. 96 women enteri...
