Emerging allergies to cannabis
We report 6 clinical cases of immediate hypersensitivity related to CS.Subjects were young adults (27-41 years; 2M/4F) current or former C smokers. Symptoms were:plant food allergies due to cross-reactive lipid transfer proteins (LTP) (n= 5) (Metz-Favre C et al. Eur Ann Allergy Clin Immunol. 2011 Dec;43(6):193-5), rhinitis/asthma (n= 3), contact urticaria/eczema (n=3) and effort anaphylaxis (n=1). All had positive CS sIgE (median 8.05 (4.35-21.9) kU/L) (Ebo D et al. Int Arch Allergy Immunol. 2013;161:220-8). In 1 case, SPT with crude CS was made and strongly positive. All subjects were atopic.Up to now, C consumption has b...

The clinical differences of asthma in patients with molds allergy.
CONCLUSION: Patients with monovalent IgE allergies to molds are at a higher risk for asthma than patients with other allergies. Their asthma is often more intense and less controlled compared to that of patients with other types of allergies. PMID: 27238165 [PubMed - in process]

Role of the T-cell homing receptor in the immune mechanisms of the allergic march
Conclusion: The induction of acute asthma after a food allergy protocol on mice leads to a worsening of pulmonary symptoms, suggesting a link between unrelated allergies involving a migratory process.

"Healthcare seems to vary a lot": A focus group study among parents of children with severe allergy.
CONCLUSIONS: Based on parental experiences, having a child with severe allergic disease implies a need to constantly be on guard. In order to improve the care of children with severe allergy and their families, a more person- and family-centered approach is needed. PMID: 28635547 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The relationship between childhood asthma and mental health conditions
Conclusions: Children with asthma are more likely to experience a mental health condition than children without asthma and this may be related to worse outcomes (nocturnal asthma symptoms). The relationship appears to be driven by allergic disease.

Effect of omalizumab treatment on allergic comorbidities in patients with severe allergic asthma - real life experience from Czech Anti-IgE Registry
Conclusions: Patients with severe asthma treated with omalizumab showed positive effect of anti-IgE therapy not only on the clinical symptoms of asthma, but also on other allergic comorbidities. Most patients with allergic rhinitis, atopic dermatitis, chronic urticaria and food allergy experienced either improvement or complete remission of symptoms of these diseases.

Mycosis induced asthma treatment: fluticasone/salmeterol vs. budesonide/formoterol reinforced by montelukast
Conclusions: Budesonide/formoterol reinforced montelukast in conjunction with allergen-specific immunotherapy proved to be the most successful combination for curing mycosis induced asthma. Fluticasone/salmeterol increases the risk of heart disease.

Zoonotic exposure to helminths is associated with allergic sensitization in a Norwegian population
Conclusions and clinical relevance: Zoonotic helminth exposure in Norway was more frequent among the older generation of study participants. Toxocara seropositivity was associated with increased risk of allergic manifestations in the younger generation.Table 1.Adjusted odds ratio and 95% CI for anti-Toxocara spp. IgG4 positivity and associations with respiratory symptoms and allergic sensitization.Parents (n=171)aOR* (95% CI)Offspring (n=264)aOR* (95% CI)Wheeze0.72 (0.27, 1.93)3.43 (1.32, 8.91)Hay fever0.80 (0.31, 2.05)4.16 (1.68, 10.33)Rhinitis0.54 (0.23, 1.24)3.20 (1.01, 10.17)Eczema1.08 (0.48, 2.44)2.63 (1.01, 6.83)Cat ...

Laboratory animal allergy reduction from 2001 to 2016: An intervention study
Exposure to laboratory animals (LA) can cause allergic sensitization and symptoms as rhinitis, conjunctivitis, asthma, anaphylaxis and dermatitis. In 2000, a program was instituted at Trieste Universities to decrease LA allergy among scientists and technicians working with animals. The aim of our study was to investigate LA allergy in workers exposed to LA from 2001 to 2016, and to verify the effects of a preventive program.Four hundred sixty seven people underwent pre-employment screening for a job with laboratory animals at Universities of Trieste consisting in a medical examination, a full respiratory and allergy anamne...

Genetic regulation of IL1RL1 methylation and IL1RL1-a protein levels in asthma
In conclusion, asthma-associated IL1RL1 SNPs strongly regulate IL1RL1 methylation and serum IL1RL1-a levels, yet neither these IL1RL1-methylation CpG sites nor IL1RL1-a levels are associated with asthma.
