Timing of eczema onset and risk of food allergy at 3 years of age: a hospital-based prospective birth cohort study
Food allergy, an abnormal immunologic response to causal foods, most often begins early in life and has potential risks of severe reactions such as anaphylaxis [1,2]. The prevalence of food allergy has been increasing worldwide in recent decades, and the estimated prevalence was reported as 10% in infants and 5% in preschool children [3,4]. The burden of food allergy in young children is a serious health issue, substantially affecting the quality of life. Although interplay of genetic and environmental factors generally plays an important role in development of food allergy, environmental exposure is likely the primary cau...

Food Allergy in Korean Patients with Chronic Urticaria.
CONCLUSION: Although some participants claimed to have a history of CU related to food intake, when an open OFC test was conducted, few of them had positive results. We therefore conclude that food allergy is an uncommon cause of chronic CU. PMID: 27746634 [PubMed - in process]

Isothiocyanates are important as haptens in contact allergy to chloroprene rubber
ConclusionsThiourea compounds are degraded to isothiocyanates, which are generally strong or extreme sensitizers, thus acting as prehaptens. This process occurs in both chloroprene rubber products and patch test preparations. Positive reactions to phenylisocyanate indicate cutaneous metabolism, as the only known source of exposure to phenylisocyanate is through bioactivation of diphenylthiourea. This article is protected by copyright. Epidemic of Isothiazolinone Allergy in North America: Prevalence Data From the North American Contact Dermatitis Group, 2013-2014.
CONCLUSIONS: The epidemic of isothiazolinone sensitivity documented in Europe is now in North America. Patch testing with only MCI/MI 0.01% aq will miss approximately half of isothiazolinone allergy cases, whereas testing with only MI 0.2% aq will miss approximately 10% of isothiazolinone allergy cases. Contact Allergy to and Other Adverse Effects of Fragrances: A Brief Overview.
This article gives an overview of fragrance allergy. The following subjects are discussed: composition of perfumes, contact with fragrances, diagnosing fragrance allergy, frequency of allergy, clinical picture of allergic contact dermatitis, culprit products, occupational contact dermatitis, and other adverse effects of fragrances. For diagnosing fragrance sensitization, personal products and a fragrance series may need to be tested in addition to the baseline series. In the general adult population, up to 4.5% may be allergic to fragrance materials, and in consecutive patients patch tested for suspected contact dermatitis...

Dog keeping at home before and during pregnancy decreased the risk of food allergy in 1-year-old children.
Conclusions: Keeping a dog at home before and during pregnancy decreased the risk of food allergy in 1-year-old children. This effect was eliminated in case of having a cat, hamster, guinea pig, or rabbit. PMID: 32489363 [PubMed]

Usefulness of the drug allergy passport in the drug allergy management
CONCLUSIONS: The analysis of drug allergy passport shows that patients are better informed about medicines they can use and have a greater sense of security. By showing the passport to specialists, they choose the safest and adequate treatment.PMID:34377124 | PMC:PMC8330863 | DOI:10.5114/ada.2021.107930

Bacteriological analysis of selected phenotypes of chronic rhinosinusitis with co-existing asthma, allergy and hypersensitivity to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
CONCLUSIONS: Gram-positive cocci were equally common in CRSwNP and CRSsNP. In the CRSsNP, there was a correlation between the coexistence of asthma and allergy, and the presence of Gram-positive cocci. There was no statistical significance between the occurrence of particular flora and the multiplicity of operations in both CRS phenotypes.PMID:34408567 | PMC:PMC8362779 | DOI:10.5114/ada.2021.104279
